my heart aches as we continue to witness the massacres, killing, grief, destruction, and injustice against Palestinians. today marks 154 days. 1.5.4. where do we go from here?
Only a few days left to see Collective Visions: Celebrating 25 Years of Photography at the AGO 📷
“In a departure from traditional curatorial models, Collective Visions: Celebrating 25 Years of Photography is shaped by more than 80 artists, collectors, donors, curators, community leaders, and scholars, beginning with a selection by Curator Emeritus Maia-Mari Sutnik. Structured as an “exquisite corpse”—the collaborative game popularized by the Surrealists in the 1920s—each participant selects a photograph in response to the previous choice.”
Super fun to take part in this – thank you @hackettse & @talorbenchoreen ! My selection was a 19th century stereograph, The Village Belle, Jamaica, in response to Lotus L. Kang’s photogram (Her Own Devices (detail), 2020).
I was drawn to the material surface of her work – one of 35 unique photograms made using mesh firewood and onion sacs. The pattern, layers, and texture reminded me of the thatched roofing.
