I finally bought an @explorethousand helmet and get to make this dumb joke a reality. Having unfettered access to indesign and a vinyl cutter is dangerous. @explorethousand , not telling ya how to do your job, but a pair of matching adult and dog helmets would be incredible ;)
My parent’s hometown of @cityoflindstrom is cute as hell. ❤️ Coffeepot water tower that spews steam during Swedish coffee hours (10am and 3pm)? Check. Awesome mural by @lazerchef ? Check. Giant meat statue on a roof? Check. Happy dogs and humans? Double check.

For years now my classes have come to know Booker as the “demo dog”. He’s my little dumb muse for showing processes for a variety of projects. Since I am teaching a lithography course this semester he was naturally the subject for a stone litho portrait. Then I wanted to experiment how stone printed on a variety of paper types and vellums. After that? How to add screenprint colors. And screenprint colors to the back of the vellums to mute their appearance. And hell, why not some gold leaf too. The end result? I imagine March 8th is always going to be a difficult day. It’s the day my oldest brother Kyle passed away from brain cancer. We knew it was coming. We knew it for a while. That didn’t really make it easier.
I haven’t talked with many of you about Kyle’s passing; some of you might have known him personally and some of you not at all. There’s so much I could say about him – who he was, what he meant to me, the whole experience at the end- but instead I want to share a few thoughts about this last year, and lessons I’m left thinking about as I continue to try and learn how to navigate this world without my big brother guiding the way.
Kyle taught me about connections. Kyle was the one who reached out. Sometimes he would call for a reason, sometimes just to check in. Those that know me well know this is a major weakness of mine. I’m admittedly terrible at keeping good connections, even with some of my closest friends. Kyle taught me how loved it can make someone feel when connections are prioritized. I’m really trying at this one and am still failing regularly. Forgive me as I try to improve.
Kyle taught me about kindness and appreciation. During the entire time that Kyle was sick, there wasn’t a single time I remember him acting without kindness. His most spoken phrase during my time spent with him during his illness was by far “thank you." I found this remarkable, especially when his situation became extremely difficult as he struggled with mobility and speech. So, to my friends: Thank you. Thank you for sharing your passions and for teaching me something new. Thank you for your patience. But mostly, thank you for your kindness.
However, Kyle and his situation taught me most about time. Time is precious- the time you give to others, the time you give to yourself. Prioritize who and what gets your time. Time is finite.
I love my brother very much and there’s not a day I’m not thinking about him. It’s not a phrase I use much, but when I was 16 one of my best friends was killed in a car crash. They found a note in her pocket that said simply “Remember to say ‘I love you’ to those you care about," so to my friends, I love you. Thank you for all that you do.

I like to hand write all my favorite recipes because having to scroll through “Rebecca’s soup that even her picky kids will eat” and the twenty page story of how it came to be drives me insane.

In all my home improvement adventures the one thing I refused to touch was electrical. Today I got over that fear and installed a new ceiling fan to replace my old wobbly one. Several YouTube videos, and a panicky text to @lockjaws , and this puppy is up and working great. ❤️
