In every season, there comes a point when the job of a coach shifts.
At first, it’s about excitement, motivation, creating an atmosphere of connection, and instilling in the team the values of community, patience, curiosity, and consistent hard work that is also fun work.
THEN, if you’re lucky enough to have a group that gels like
@thenonameprogram has, the team largely runs itself—with very light guidance, they support each other. They echo their coaches teachings in their own words and with their own insights.
My job becomes standing on the periphery and waiting to see where I am needed.
Who’s carrying a heavy energy—bunched up shoulder or knitted brow?
Who’s hesitating before choosing which pace group to join?
Who’s lingering at the end of practice, not sure what to ask but needing something?
Who looks tentative in the first steps of every interval?
This is my daily work at practice.
Today, I’ll be at noname HQ from 3-7. If you need a walkthrough—you’re not sure of how to pace yourself, you’re feeling overwhelmed at the logistics of the day, or something’s hurting, let’s chat!!
