Saturday, May 6, 2023 – Dec 2, 2023
304 w Crest Ave, Tampa, FL 33603 This exhibition is Ecuadorian artist Alfredo Ramírez Raymond’s public debut of a project that positions his multi-generational family tradition in metalworking, as an informal collaborative practice to co-create with three other artists– Rafaela Armendaris, Lucas Neira, and Karin Iturralde. Whether its identity, ecology, economy, or art, Alfredo’s practice responds to ‘hard’ concepts and established infrastructures with questions usually asked in design practices, use of resources and its socio-material impact. Alfredo’s future-building oeuvre is filled with gratitude and care towards his collaborators, living and dead.

𝙋𝙖𝙧𝙖 𝙡𝙤𝙨 𝙥𝙖𝙥á𝙨 𝙦𝙪𝙚 𝙣𝙤𝙨 𝙡𝙡𝙚𝙫𝙖𝙗𝙖𝙣 𝙖𝙡 𝙠𝙖𝙧𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 (𝘍𝘰𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘧𝘢𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘸𝘩𝘰 𝘶𝘴𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘶𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘴𝘦𝘦 𝘬𝘢𝘳𝘵 𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘦𝘴) Alfredo Ramírez Raymond, Lucas Neira AISI 1018 Carbon Steel, used copper plate from welding machine, mild steel plate, ratchet straps, stainless steel hardware, motor oil 2023 Alfredo Ramírez Raymond is situated in a lineage of metalworkers and mechanics working since the 1930’s, with processes ranging from smelting, boat production, to precision machining. In the early 2000’s, the introduction of new modes of engineering such as digital fabrication, CNC milling, and replacement over repair (planned obsolescence) lowered demand for this type of metalwork, resulting in the closure of the family business.  In 2020, Alf decided to restore these machines, but not to work with them for profit. Starting in 2022, Ramírez Raymond invited artist friends Rafaela Armendaris, Lucas Neira, and Karin Iturralde to collaborate on a series of pieces reacting to ‘stable’ discourses–intercepting them with questions usually asked in ethics, design practices, ecology, socio-material impact and modes of production. Alongside his friends’ sensibilities, Alfredo’s future-building oeuvre is filled with gratitude and care towards his collaborators, living and dead. @aaaaaaaaaaaaaaalf @100000lucas @jun.ii.n @juanfelipeparedes @libbi.ponce @_jasonlazarus_ install shot of gallery 2 🔅 viewing by appointment through 9.16.2023 DM @_jasonlazarus_
