From shifting projections and migratory movement to quantum interaction and dissolving matter, these are a few of the works shaping this year’s CURRENTS 2026 Art & Technology Festival ✤ CURRENTS 2026 | June 12 - June 21 ✤ At @elmuseocultural_sf | 555 Camino de la Familia ✤ Early Bird Tickets out now link in bio! ⋆˙⟡ ⋆.˚ ⊹₊⟡ ⋆ Quantum Jungle by Robin Baumgarten @robin.wobbles is an interactive installation of touch-sensitive springs and LEDs that turns complex concepts from quantum physics into a playful, hands-on experience for all ages. Threaded Light by Jess Lanham @jesslan4 transforms charcoal and fire-scarred ponderosa pine from the Hermit’s Peak/Calf Canyon burn scar into a haunting projection work that reflects on memory, regeneration, and the shifting meaning of home. Cluster Ache by Morgan Woolverton @morgan_woolverton layers hand-drawn sculptural panels with AI-animated projections, merging traditional mark-making with digital processes to create a shifting animated environment. Birds In Flight by Julia Daser @julia.daser and Pepi Ng @pepzicles is a kinetic sculpture that visualizes real-time bird migration across the United States, translating invisible aerial movement into a constantly shifting physical experience. Ephemera by Leffin C @leffinc uses mist, copper, and condensation to meditate on impermanence, questioning humanity’s desire to leave behind traces that can outlast time and memory. ——— Support from #neaArts #NMArts #SFArtsandCulture #SFEconomicDevelopment #SFCountyLTab mediaTheFoundation KindWorldFoundation

Behind every project there is SO SO MUCH prototyping and testing (especially when working with mechanical parts) 😭 👀👀… sooo here are some of my favorite (and most aesthetic) snapshots from project “Working Mother”!! ❤️ 3D Modeling, 3D printing, CNC cutting, welding, lots of thinking. THANKS TONS to all the staff members and friends from the Parsons Makingcenter shops ❤️

Finally time to post one of my biggest projects! ✊❤️ “Working Mother” is an art installation critiquing that mothers’ care work is unpaid and undervalued. —— In the project I compare tasks involved in motherhood to the paid workforce: Laundry workers, nannies and cooks for example are seen as real PAID jobs. Yet the same work goes UNPAID when done by mothers. This inequality hits women the hardest and fuels the gender pay gap. 😤 ____ This is easily the most research-heavy project I’ve ever worked on and I’m so happy to finally share it! 💛

Julia Daser’s “Flooded House “visualizes ocean level rise by physically flooding an apartment based on NASA’s sea-level rise prediction and visitor input. The apartment is an exact replica of the artist’s home, highlighting the extreme flooding dangers in the States and beyond. “Flooded House” is not a data visualization that can be passively consumed: the project’s strong focus on how stories and community intersect removes the data’s anonymity. It invites visitors to explore what climate change looks and feels like from a point of empathy and compassion, calling them to action. 📣View “Flooded House” at CURRENTS 2025 Art & Technology Festival @currentsnewmedia 📆June 13-22 @ El Museo Cultural 🔗Link in bio: Festival calendar, information, and updates Julia Daser @julia.daser is an NYC-based artist working with data, electronics, and physical fabrication. Growing up in a post-truth era, where the power of science to shape public opinion has diminished, Julia makes science and technology more engaging to diverse and wide-ranging audiences. By breaking away from traditional data visualization techniques, she creates interactive, multi-sensory projects that communicate pressing humanitarian concerns through artistic and personal narratives. Julia has a particular interest in techno-feminist thought, active participatory civic engagement, and social justice. —— Major support from #NEAArts #NMArts #SFArtsandCulture #SFEconomicDevelopment #NMCreativeIndustriesDivision #NMTourismDepartment #SFCountyLTab #mediaTheFoundation

Event Links in Description! February 14th 7-10pm February 9th 3-6pm In this Valentine's Day-special class, participants will build their very own pair of Love Messengers: a perfect gift for friends, partners and loved ones 💞. Love Messengers are two IoT devices that are connected to each other via a real-time database. When one Love Messenger is pressed, the other will light up, no matter how far apart they are. The class will provide all materials, and playfully introduce Internet of Things technology, basic coding (C++), electronics, and fabrication techniques. At the end of the class, everyone gets to take their love messengers home as a gift for a loved one. No prior experience necessary. Bring your own laptop! The class is $20/person, but we want our workshop to be accessible to everyone. If the $20 ticket is a barrier for you, we’d be happy to sponsor it—just let us know by reaching out to us at [email protected]. The instructors: Pepi and Julia are two NYC-based creative technologists passionate about open-source projects. “Love Messengers” is our first fully open-source tech project - over the years, we've refined its code and fabrication, and have taught this workshop at events like Siggraph 2024, Parsons Dorkshop and NYC Resistor.
