"Wildfire & Watersheds" is an interactive water sculpture based on the phenomenon of turbidity. Turbidity measures water clarity by shining light through it and recording how much light is scattered by suspended particulate matter.
Viewers push down on a seesaw mechanism to activate turbid water containing sediment and ash, which then washes over the map and settles into the etched paths of the watershed.
It's been a while since I've posted here, but I'm excited to share my MFA thesis show, Found in the overflow.
Opening night: March 7, 6-8:30pm
Show nights: March 7, 8, 9, 14, 15, 16
Location: Dwan Light Sanctuary
Excited to share what I've been working on!
Hi friends! If you're in Santa Fe tomorrow evening and feel like looking at some art, stop by @stratagallerysantafe ! Some amazing artists and myself are part of Ephemerality, a group show. Reception is this Friday, 5 - 7pm.
First semester wrapped! For friends who don't know, I started an MFA program at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. Loving it so far. This is a shot from my installation The Process of What's Left...more to come...
I'm feeling mixed emotions tonight. For the past month, my hometown area has been devastated by what's becoming the 2nd largest wildfire in New Mexican history. Last week we were certain the UWC, where I grew up, was going to burn as the fire made a horrifying run down from Gallinas Canyon, but stopped somewhere just short of the college. The fire crews have done an incredible job over the past week and tonight they declared the area around the UWC "contained". I felt a huge amount of relief at that news. But now Mora county and the Mineral Hill area are in the fire's direct path, and I'm just so heartbroken. From late 2019 to early 2021, I was living at the UWC and spent most of covid exploring the surrounding mountains and rivers. It was such a gift to be there and to rediscover so many incredible places. I do take comfort in hearing stories of the Las Vegas community coming together. I've seen photos of volunteer massage therapists setting up their massage tables at evacuation sites...the local restaurants coming together to cook massive amounts of food to serve evacuees and firefighters. I have so much love for the Las Vegas community and the land around it. ❤️
