Dispositivo de acessibilidade e permanência, 2026 | Doação de rampas de acesso Momento ​importante, significativo e emocionante da exposição Manual para percorrer a menor distância de um ponto a outro, de Luiza Sigulem, no dia 23 de janeiro, na travessa Dona Paula, em São Paulo. O ato integra a obra Dispositivo de acessibilidade e permanência, 2026, um conjunto de ações que articula intervenções arquitetônicas, mobiliário, biblioteca de consulta, texto em braille, fototátil, audiodescrição e rampas de acesso, ativando o espaço expositivo em relação direta com a comunidade da vila. A obra propõe a implementação de uma estrutura temporária de cuidado, entendendo a acessibilidade não como representação simbólica, mas como exercício prático: a reorganização concreta do espaço, do tempo e da recepção a partir dos modos reais de chegada, circulação, pausa e permanência de diferentes corpos. Os dispositivos foram realizados com materiais simples, de baixo custo e fácil reprodução. No próximo sábado, dia 24, inaugura a exposição Manual para percorrer a menor distância de um ponto a outro, segunda individual da artista Luiza Sigulem, com curadoria de Juliana Caffé. "Ao longo do meu processo, a falta de acessibilidade se manifestou no tempo necessário para lidar com pequenos e grandes obstáculos e na atenção exigida por ajustes mínimos que se acumularam de forma quase imperceptível," declara a artista. "Essa experiência deslocou a ideia de eficiência e aproximou minha produção de uma noção de tempo expandido, no qual o ritmo do corpo não coincide com a expectativa normativa da reprodução capitalista. É nesse descompasso que o meu trabalho se constrói." A mostra reúne um conjunto inédito de trabalhos, entre vídeos, esculturas e fotografias, que tensiona a relação entre corpo, arquitetura e o tempo, propondo o deslocamento como uma operação de ajuste e reflexão crítica. JAMAC at Construction, Occupation, Fowler Museum @jardim.miriam.arte.clube @monicanador @brn.lvr *** For this work Mônica Nador and Bruno Oliveira, longtime coordinator at JAMAC, worked intensively with a community of UCLA students on questions pertaining to home, displacement, identity, and the border. Through a series of workshops, conversations led to a design process, followed by stencil making, and finally a discussion-based construction of patterns that reflected the complex interactions between the community and the artist. Many of the designs are also accompanied by the participants’ audio accounts of their work’s origin, which can be accessed via the QRcode, and these accounts intertwine to form a complex depiction of life as a student in Los Angeles in 2025. Jardim Miriam Arte Clube (JAMAC) is a community-based art collective founded in 2004 by Brazilian artist Mônica Nador in the neighborhood of Jardim Miriam, São Paulo. Rooted in the principles of social practice, JAMAC fosters collaboration between artists, local residents, and activists to create murals, prints, and public interventions that reflect community narratives and struggles. By integrating art, education, and activism, the collective challenges social inequality and reimagines urban space as a site of collective transformation. Their work blurs the boundaries between contemporary art and grassroots movements, engaging with themes of housing rights, environmental justice, and cultural memory. Over its long trajectory, JAMAC has gained international recognition while maintaining its commitment to local empowerment and artistic autonomy. Their participatory approach exemplifies how art can serve as a tool for social change, strengthening communal bonds and fostering new forms of political and aesthetic resistance.

The exhibition brings together 24 artists and collectives—primarily from Brazil—whose radical vocabulary challenges conventional boundaries between art and activism. At its core, Construction, Occupation highlights the power of creative resistance, drawing direct connections between São Paulo and Los Angeles. The exhibition revisits and extends the groundbreaking 2016-17 “Cambridge Artistic Residency” (CARe) in downtown São Paulo, where an abandoned 17-story hotel was occupied by low-wage workers, refugees, and artists, ultimately leading to its transformation into government-funded social housing and a vibrant cultural hub.
