Sheri's Ranch is the most notorious legal brothel in America.
Deep in the Mojave Desert, it operates 24/7, 365 days a year.
On the surface, it’s a smooth, tightly run operation.
But as @jsburke discovered when he visited, a worker revolt is brewing.
Hidden on the Dorset coast, Wytch Farm, Western Europe’s largest onshore oil field, still produces around 10,000 barrels of oil a day.
A solution to the current crisis? Not quite.
When Jack Burke visited last week, he found rusting hulks, uneasy locals, and an industry on its last legs.

Who ate all the pies? In Melton Mowbray this year, an expert panel of judges shared the burden.
The annual British Pie Awards are a curious spectacle: stuffed with fierce rivalries, closely guarded pastry secrets and, of course, a disproportionate number of bald men.
Words by Jack Burke.
Every Shrovetide, anarchy descends on the Derbyshire town of Ashbourne.
For two days, shops are boarded up so hundreds of men can wrestle and fight over a painted leather ball.
But who actually plays Royal Shrovetide Football? And what happens when a fiercely local ritual becomes a national spectacle?

Slab City. A wild fever dream few days, part of a dusty road trip through the American desert for Dispatch.
Jacob sent me there because he knew I’d hate it. And I agreed because I was interested in Slab City’s s myth as some anarchic libertarian utopia, the LAST FREE PLACE IN AMERICA.
What was it really like? What do the endless come-with-me-guys-YouTubers inevitably fail to capture?
Read to find out. It’s one of my favourite Dispatch pieces.

One of the stories that stuck with the most from my Altadena fire reporting was The Bunny Museum.
And so, when The Times asked me to adapt it into a standalone piece, I was happy to oblige.
Candace and Steve’s story is about as grim an illustration of the fire’s devastation as you can imagine: 60,000 bunnies, their life’s work, love story and home, burnt to ash overnight.
If you’d like to donate a bunny, they can be sent to:

A custom Arsenal one is already on its way from me.

A year ago this week, two wildfires tore through Los Angeles.
Most of the attention fell on the Palisades — the cliffside enclave of celebrity homes and eye-watering property values.
But at the same time, another fire was burning just as fiercely in nearby Altadena.
The Eaton Fire killed more people and destroyed more homes than the Palisades blaze — yet it quickly slipped from the national story.
For this report, Jack Burke and Phil Donohue travelled to Altadena.

Some shots from one of the great drives in the world: The Wild Atlantic Way in Ireland.
These are mostly from the Co. Mayo stretch.

No one knows County Sligo better than John The Map.
He hitchhikes, he farts, and he knows where to forage magic mushrooms.
For today’s piece, Jack Burke tracked him down. Together, they embarked on a journey that is equal parts funny, filthy and surprisingly heartwarming...
In case any of you were wondering (though you probably weren’t) why I’ve been in America… I was on dispatch for Dispatch. Jacob, the editor, sent me on a reporting mission through the surreal landscapes of inland California and Nevada.
The stories will be out in the new year. But for now, here are some of my favourite shots.
(And yes. I bought a camera. I too am now one of those #35mm c***s.)
A very fun, salacious, bridge-burning feature in @thetimesmagazine along with a nice twatty Next catalogue photo.
Thank you to the other chefs who, for reasons that should be blindingly obvious, spoke to me on the condition of anonymity.
And thank you @conwayc2 as always for the commission.
