A combination of clean character makeup, natural, undistracting looks designed to contrast with the horror elements and withstand close up cinematic lighting, and a fully practical special effects progression were executed for this project.
The special effects sequence on the lead utilized a two piece silicone prosthetic system:
🩸 A thin, flesh/muscle silicone brow/temple wound, vascular texture appliance applied first to establish the initial injury.
🩸 A secondary silicone piece designed with a flexible “skin flap” structure engineered to pull up and away from the face on camera, revealing internal detailing and depth.
🩸Hand laced eyebrows to match the actress’s face.
🩸 The wound’s interior was airbrushed and hand painted using alcohol activated paint, incorporating subdermal tones, bruising to maintain realism under the scene’s desaturated lighting.
🩸 Controlled gloss levels were added in incremental layers to enhance the sense of fresh trauma without overpowering the camera.
The result is a fully practical, on camera peel effect that aligns with the psychological horror aesthetic of the Silent Hill universe.
