The installation of La Caverne du Pont Neuf, conceived as a tribute to @christojeanneclaude , began this morning with the arrival of the teams responsible for setting up the artwork! The process will be gradual and will continue until it opens to the public on Saturday, June 6.
From June 6 to 28, you’ll be able to enjoy a unique sensory experience by walking through it, and I can’t wait to welcome you there! I also made sure that the next generation of artists could get a special preview through a program that will allow 2,500 elementary and middle school students to visit during field trips.
La Caverne du Pont Neuf will be accessible free of charge 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The project is funded without public funds.

Il Gesto, a contemporary reinterpretation of The Wedding at Cana by Veronese. Inside the Second Piano Nobile of Palazzo Ca’ da Mosto, the walls have become an archive where the faces of the guests, volunteers, and chefs of Refettorio Paris inhabit the room. It is an immersive experience where every voice is present. On jrchronicles.net/ilgesto every story can be heard.
In the adjoining room, a monumental tapestry represents the 174 participants of the project. Measuring 4.30 metres in height and 7.80 metres in width, this work is the result of a beautiful collaboration with Master Weaver Giovanni Bonotto. It took 600 hours of research and human hands guiding mechanical looms to bring this vision to life.
The present is weaved into the past using a mix of yarns recycled plastic, virgin wool, organic cotton, and washi paper. This texture creates a material bridge, a dialogue between Venice’s ancient textile heritage and the contemporary stories we are telling today.
The interior installation opens to the public on May 6th. You can book through the link in bioI invite you to step inside, listen to these voices, and join us in supporting the local community.
Proud to reveal a new project in Venice: Il Gesto, a contemporary reinterpretation of The Wedding at Cana by Paolo Veronese.
This week, the work inhabits the Byzantine façade of Palazzo Ca’ da Mosto. From the Grand Canal to the Piano Nobile, it unfolds between public view and private space, continuing inside The Venice Venice Hotel as an immersive installation.
This contemporary “fresco” replaces biblical figures with 176 members of the Refettorio Paris — guests, volunteers, and chefs whose stories carry dignity and voice.
This project brings together several threads I’ve been exploring over the years.
The Wedding at Cana was originally created for San Giorgio Maggiore, a place that is part of my history with Venice. In 2020, we organized a procession there for Omelia Contadina. The painting tells the story of a miracle — water turning into wine — but what stays with me is the idea of hope, and the possibility that transformation can make the end more meaningful than the beginning.
In Paris, with a group of friends, we created the Refettorio Paris. Each evening, people facing difficult circumstances are welcomed as honored guests. Before dinner, there can be an exhibition, a concert, or a performance. Then comes a meal prepared from surplus ingredients. Here, the miracle is not religious — it is the moment when hardship becomes a shared celebration.
In this space, one rule is essential: guests are not photographed. Their image belongs to them. For this work, we collaborated only with those who chose to participate. Each person appears with their own identity and voice.
As in my Chronicles projects, everyone is in focus, fully present. The image becomes a shared space where every presence matters equally.
The fresco itself also carries a history. For centuries, it was not only decorative. It insulated, protected, it had a function.
Finally, this project connects Venice and Paris. Veronese’s work, created in Venice, is now shown at the Louvre Museum, where I’ve worked before, making the pyramid disappear in 2016, and reappear in 2019. This dialogue between the two cities continues here.
Tomorrow, I’ll share more about the installation inside.
Three acts. One monumental journey.
From the waters of the Grand Canal, JR inhabits the Byzantine façade of Palazzo Ca’ da Mosto with a site-specific installation that brings public and private space into dialogue.
The narrative continues inside, where mirrors, shadows, and echoes transform the Second Piano Nobile into a living archive — the palazzo’s past meeting the voices of today.
The work culminates in a large-scale tapestry: 600 hours of textile research and production — yarns of recycled plastic, virgin wool, organic cotton, and washi paper, woven on mechanical looms. A choral narrative finds its most enduring form.
Step inside Il Gesto this May at The Venice Venice Hotel.
