We are pleased to share Cynthia Mak's latest seasonal window design for Hermès Hong Kong and Macau, titled "Venture Beyond: Frames of Fantasy".
This enchanting window display invites viewers to adopt a childlike mindset, seeing the world not just for what it is, but for what it could be. By stripping away their everyday functions, Cynthia playfully reimagines three fundamental elements of the home: the door, the window, and the gate. Together, these structures become magical passages into a fantasy world shaped entirely by imagination.
The display unfolds into a three-part journey in which the world behaves like a child at play. It begins with the door—not as a barrier, but as a mischievous invitation born from the quiet cradle of trees, leaning in with curiosity to wonder what you might discover. The venture then flows into a space where windows stack, overlap, and unfold like layers of visual fantasy, each frame revealing a new sliver of a story. At last, we arrive at the final destination, Hermès, where the journey gathers itself into a single, radiant gate—a grand, symbolic threshold marking the end of the venture and the beginning of whatever comes next.
In this playground of "what ifs," windows twist into moons, gates bend into abstract forms, and frames and openings mismatch, shift, and surprise. It is a mischievous and beautiful invitation for passersby to pause, get confused, smile, and wonder.
