My new work “Daughters of Hong Kong, Generations” is now on view at KUNSTRAI 2026 !
As a child, I often heard my grandmother’s stories of being a ”factory girl“ during the occupation. Despite the hardships, she remained remarkably grounded. After fleeing Guangzhou, she and my grandfather reunited and fell in love in post-war Hong Kong.
On my mother’s side, she was raised by two grandmothers. After my grandfather’s early passing, these two women—one managing the home, the other working tirelessly outside—joined forces to raise five children and later co-managed a Buddhist hall.
My parents, the Baby Boomers, rode the waves of Hong Kong’s economic rise. To escape poverty, my mother worked day and night, managing a day job alongside a cha chaan teng and a jewelry shop. When the 1997 bubble burst, her resilience was the pillar that supported our family.
My elder sister, once pampered, transformed into a ”giant“ after becoming a mother. Her fierce protection of her family reminds me so much of my mother—strong, brave, and unyielding.
In their presence, I feel humbled. Through my lens as a female artist, I depict these generations of Hong Kong women. They prove that greatness isn‘t only found in reaching for the clouds; there is profound dignity in standing firmly on the earth, gentle yet resilient.

🇳🇱 JPS Gallery at KunstRAI 2026 │ Booth 77
JPS Gallery is pleased to announce its participation in @kunstrai 2026 with a curated showcase exploring Hong Kong's multifaceted identity. The presentation features works by five prominent contemporary Hong Kong artists: Afa Annfa, Kazy Chan, Lousy, Peep, and Wilson Shieh. Collectively, these artists examine and contextualise the defining global moniker of their native city: the "concrete jungle."
To an external observer, this phrase frequently evokes a sterile, chaotic expanse of dizzying verticality. However, for those who inhabit the city, a profound human resonance runs through its dense infrastructure. Through this showcase, the artists reclaim Hong Kong's narrative from the outsider's gaze.
Transcending the imposing, impersonal façades of the metropolis, they offer intimate perspectives cultivated by a lifetime of navigating its streets. By translating their environment into nuanced, autobiographical narratives, the artists illuminate the warmth, vulnerability, and quiet humanity situated amidst towering concrete and glass. Ultimately, this presentation transforms a global symbol of urban extremity into a personal topography of home, affirming that the true essence of the city resides not in its architectural scale, but in the collective memory, resilience, and daily rhythms of its inhabitants.

DESIGNINSPIRE 2025 - TINY STUDIO 4-7/12
Last day to visit!! 🙌 #DesignInspire
This artwork draws inspiration from two intertwined icons of Hong Kong’s collective memory: the stained-glass panels of the long-demolished Haw Par Mansion and Charlie Chaplin’s final self-written and directed film, A Countess from Hong Kong (1967), starring Sophia Loren and Marlon Brando.
In medieval Europe, stained glass served as the luminous medium of Gothic cathedrals, intimately tied to Western Christian iconography. But the arched stained-glass windows commissioned for Haw Par Mansion in the 1930s by philanthropist and businessman Aw Boon Haw present a distinctly Eastern visual language, featuring motifs such as the South China tiger, bamboo groves and evergreen pines. This rare East-West commission from the 1930s embodies a profound cultural fusion.
While the visual language of the stained glass is rooted in Haw Par Mansion, the narrative scenes simultaneously re-enact moments from A Countess from Hong Kong. Sophia Loren, the legendary Italian actress, first discovered Hong Kong while filming this movie. Shooting on location in Tsim Sha Tsui, Victoria Harbour and The Peak, she fell deeply in love with the city’s East-meets-West culture and its cuisine. From the 1970s onward, she visited almost every year, famously declaring, “Hong Kong is my second home.” Moreover as an Italian style icon, Sophia Loren had a lifelong passion for animal prints, tiger-print pieces became one of the most recognisable signatures of her personal wardrobe; several are now in museum collections.
In this exhibition, the display pavilion has been transformed into a small chapel. By reinterpreting the stained-glass tradition through a contemporary lens, the artist weaves together cultural symbols of Italy and Hong Kong: Haw Par Mansion and the glamour of classic cinema. At the heart of the space stands the sculptural figure of a worshipper made from artificial bread and butter—emblems of sustenance, faith and material desire. In a city that often appears to worship money above all else, the work quietly questions: what, ultimately, do we revere—divinity, fame or wealth?

Bonhams N1MALS GROUP EXHIBITION 🙌
<Why do you think I’m like the moon, Bruno?>
“That begins with an M.”
“The moon, and memory, and muchness”
Under the rise of the full moon, animals begin to dance in abandon. In the name of art, beneath the radiant moonlight, I weave the latent animality and desires of the human heart into this pure yet voluptuous, otherworldly boundary. This is a beautiful and mad world—a world more real than reality itself.
