About Jonathan:
Belfast-born Jonathan Byers studied the cello at the Royal Academy of Music. As cellist with the Badke Quartet, he was winner of the 1st prize and audience prize in the 5th Melbourne International Chamber Music Competition in 2007. The Quartet performed frequently at London’s Wigmore Hall and Kings Place, Musikverein in Vienna, Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and regularly broadcasted on BBC Radio 3.
Jonathan enjoys a busy freelance career performing as guest principal with Academy of Ancient Music, Arcangelo, Gabrieli Consort, OAE, and is currently Co-Principal cellist with The English Concert and the Irish Baroque Orchestra.

A magical November! Ysolde turned 4 on Halloween; a celebration of Claire Van Kampen’s life with an abridged version of ‘Farinelli and the King’ and the UK debut of a beautiful ballet for piano trio and dancers that Claire wrote called ‘Uncaged’. Thanks to @iiestyndavies Mark Rylance and @julietrylance for a beautiful few days and to @unapallisermusic and @sophiarahman312 for being wonderful trio partners. Then a week in beautiful and freezing Norway with the Norwegian Wind Ensemble and @peterwhelanpp . Bought a new cello case from @wisemancases - it’s so feather light it’s gonna save my back from impending doom!! Now taking it on its first journey back home to Norn Iron to perform half of Bach’s cello suites for @sestinamusic yeeeoooo
