CÂMBIO presents the exclusive premiere of acclaimed choreographer Alice Ripoll’s latest work, featuring a solo performance by
@ohiltinho , master of the Brazilian passinho, in six shows only.
Exciting Brazilian choreographer Alice Ripoll premieres a brand new show, Puff, featuring stellar passinho virtuoso Hiltinho Fantástico, in just six shows during the final week of this year’s Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Puff explores the concept of disguise in African Diaspora dances, where silenced cultures, messages, and traditions are transmitted. Samba, capoeira and passinho showcase speedy footwork and body dissociation, creating illusions that suggest something is being concealed, in keeping with the title, ‘puff’ meaning a magical disappearance in Portuguese.
These 35-minute solo performances cement the longstanding partnership between the two artists, both born in Rio de Janeiro, who have been collaborating for the last seven years in exploring a language that blends contemporary dance and Brazilian urban dances and creating critically acclaimed pieces which have toured around the world.
Embracing Hiltinho Fantástico’s outstanding skills as a professional dancer in passinho, an urban dance style born in the favelas of Rio de Janeiro, as a starting point, Alice Ripoll typically allows space for the dancer to transform his own experiences and memories into images. Puff is a rare opportunity to experience the work of two major talents in their field presented in the UK.
These performances of Puff presented by
