The first touch.
The front door marks the threshold from the public street into the private space of a family home. For our Hillside Residence, the door handle was designed as a unique personal element, sized to fit the hands of its two owners and crafted to reflect the character of the house.
The design began with hand sketches, developed through digital models and 3D printed prototypes, tested and refined by the clients themselves. The final form was cast in solid bronze here in Sydney, using the traditional lost wax method, each step shaped by hand and driven by the material.
The result is a tactile and sculptural detail, deeply personal to its owners and a warm invitation to their home. It is also a celebration of local manufacturing and craftsmanship.

Hillside Residence |â Off-form concrete and exposed slab edges define the structure of our latest completed project. The curved off-form concrete forms the backbone of the build, defining levels, edges and junctions with no finishes to hide behind.â
â
Custom moveable, sliding and foldable screens were integrated to manage privacy and shade. All tracks were cast directly into the off-form concrete slabs, requiring accurate set-out and coordination from the earliest stages of construction.â
â
Aluminium box frames and perforated metal screens wrap the edges of the building, finished with flat bar detailing and powder coating. Fabricated in collaboration with @alsopengineering and perforated by @arrow.metal , all components were fixed, assembled and installed on site by hand by Join.â
â
A project where craft, coordination and detail converge - every element considered.â

Naming the upstairs bar and lounge in honour of Smithy felt like the perfect way to pay homage to someone who contributed immensely to the club. â
â
As a key player during the formative years of Sharks FC, Smithy was instrumental in defining the clubâs character and fostering its development. By dedicating this space to him, his legacy remains permanently woven into the heart and daily life of the club.â
â
Join is extremely proud to bring to life a space that continues his legacy.â
