Many of the policy commitments made by the Coalition last night were welcomed by Master Builders. We would like to see both sides of politics go further with reforms to the skilled migration pathway and domestic uplift. The Parliament has failed to address critical labour shortages. See what the positives were for builders in the Budget Reply Speech at the link in our bio.

The message within the interim report is clear, the NCC is no longer fit for purpose. The direction of the report’s recommendations reflect much of what builders have been asking for. Master Builders looks forward to further engagement with the review panel to ensure the final report leads to action on its short- and longer-term aspirations, genuine red tape cuts and boosts to productivity. Australia’s inflation rate is nearing a three‑year high, with the cost of living up 4.6 per cent over the year to March 2026. Housing costs are the largest inflation driver. Master Builders is calling for increased construction and housing supply to help ease housing inflation and reduce the risk of further interest rate hikes. We are also urging stakeholders including regulators, suppliers and transport operators to ensure fuel and supply related levies and price increases are swiftly rolled back as costs decline. What Australians and builders alike cannot afford is a tax hike on housing. Governments must focus on policies that encourage investment, cut red tape, grow the construction workforce and deliver enabling infrastructure.
