Joeâs script impressed the judges with its originality, emotional power, and bold exploration of bisexual visibility. He will now receive ÂŁ5,000 funding alongside tailored production support from the Large Format Films team to bring his vision to life.
This first year of the competition has been a huge success, with hundreds of entries and a shortlist that showcased the breadth of emerging filmmaking talent. Weâre excited to start shooting and to continue supporting every shortlisted filmmaker on their journey.
A big thank you to all who entered, and to our partner @cvpgroup for helping us champion bold new voices in filmmaking.

What started with a sheet of A4 and a sharpie, this week finally came to fruition.
Surrounded by joyous, talented and supportive people from all walks of life - we have made something truly meaningful and it was a week @tsaphra and I will remember for a lifetime.
My cup is very full, thanks to the people in this picture (and the people back at base making sure weâre fed and watered, and getting our gorgeous sets dressed and ready).
All made possible thanks to @large_format_films game changing short film competition đŤś

The Large Format Short Films Competition, in partnership with @cvpgroup , has announced the winner of its inaugural year, with Joe Warnerâs Monolith scooping the prize!
Explaining why Monolith triumphed in a competitive field, Large Formatâs Joe Ransom said: âSifting through the nominees was one hell of a task, and I feel like the shortlist that we landed on was of such incredibly high quality.
âThe shortlist was made up of 10 really good scripts, any one of them could have won, and Iâd be happy to have been making any of those films.
âYet with the themes that the piece touches on, Warner gave us a lot of confidence in the film, and we knew it was something that is going to look visually outstanding. It was a project thatâs incredibly interesting and that I believe will do well on the festival circuit.â

Yesterday I attended the next stage of @lrg_frmt_flms@cvpgroup & @centerframeclub Short film competition.
These guys are doing things very differently. Actually BACKING emerging writers and makers. This is a screenwriting competition but itâs not just about winning, the actual process itself is a reward.
These pictures are from our filmed table read. They invited each of us to their studio in North London to record a scene from our script (with actors and a full crew), and talk about our ideas. Alongside this, they crack that whip and set us deadlines that mean by the time we submit our final pitch, we have a packaged up treatment that we can use to market our script, regardless of whether we win or not.
Short film is a very pure art form. People only get involved because they want to - it ainât paying anyoneâs bills. So the fact these guys are offering up their time, resources and experience to help other people progress their careers is honestly remarkable, and we should all take note. Pay it forward.
And to top it off, they even had young budding filmmaker Emilia on work experience, showing her how to use the camera, and got her on the clapper đŹ
I feel very lucky to have made it this far and itâs been a real win already. Thanks to sponsors @cookeoptics , @maryliversidge@joelcvp and @joe_ransom_film for the đ¸
See you at the final in August â¤ď¸đđź
@uviewff has begun! James and the team are die hard indie film makers and fans. They hold an amazingly diverse week of films and events across stunning venues in Islington, London.
I am absolutely buzzing to be nominated in the category for Best Director. It takes a village to make a short, and directors know that is very much a fact. I am honoured to be recognised for what I do. Itâs something I live and dream about daily, but it is hard to always believe and have faith that itâs possible. Itâs a miracle that short filmmakers manage to make films in the UK -
There is no market, no money and very little support available to indie short makers. So these nominations count for more than just gratification. Itâs a firm squeeze of the hand to say that we see you, and to keep creating.
Wishing all curators, makers and guests an amazing 10th year celebration. Thank you so much for supporting independent film đ¤đťâ¤ď¸
