A piece I made, crowned winner by @tropfest & @cheryaustralia . I loved being the Alchemist. The brief was: “45 seconds, for the road ahead”. The horizon is symbolic of opportunity, potential, discovery… So I attempted to tap into that sense of possibility & ambition. Adventurous excitement became the target, with some obvious nods to our hero: Chery. The sonic hero & glue of this vignette (apart from my voice lol) is of course, Roman Solo’s music. Discovering his piece ‘Iridescence’ was like breathing fresh mountain air. It’s quirky and visceral and then erupts in that flourish of colour .. it’s utter magic. Honestly it makes me want to run as fast as I can with a herd of galloping brumbies, smiling ear-to-ear. 🐎 (go follow @rs.cello immediately). 🍿 WATCH THIS: A short I made for the World’s Largest Short Film Festival @tropfest 🍍😬⏳ (posted to instagram as Nolan intended lol 🎞️) 𝐈𝐍𝐍𝐎𝐂𝐄𝐍𝐓 𝐅𝐔𝐍 Stars Miles Phillips, Claudia Moraitis & yours truly. “Core memories are made when a father introduces his son to an innocent childhood toy.” ⚠️ ESSAY BELOW ON HOW I MADE IT (Maybe watch it first lol) - Deadline gets extended. - I consider what I could make with less than a week to go… - The Tropfest Signature item required is ‘HOURGLASS’ ⏳ - “What’s an hourglass that’s not an hourglass?” I ponder… - All I can think of is a random niche circus toy I legitimately played with as a kid. - A craze swept through my school and we all had one but knew no tricks. - I purchase one next-day-delivery and start trying to find an idea based around this. - The thought of a grown man fully getting into a Diabolo does make me giggle…. - ⛔️ Essay continued in the comments…

I was sick and on antibiotics. The Tropfest deadline had been extended by a few days… A perfect storm. A signature item. An 11th hour idea. A Sydney heat wave. A sprint to the finish. A fever dream? Yes. I don’t even know what I made... Maybe I’ll show you next month? Meanwhile my little dude Miles is hilarious. My friend Claudia nailed the bookend. My bro @naradise.jpg shot last minute sick frames. The whole fam team rallied and my gorgeous Art Dept (Han) delivered some key pieces. I think I’m a sucker for this stuff ie. when all the odds are against me… Got it in with 2mins to deadline. ⏳ @tropfest … glad you’re back!

Her hero is @julieandrews and even sent her a thank you letter last week 🥹🫶 Her equal other hero is @idinamenzel (Adele Dazeem 😉) and SHE HAS HER HEART SET on Broadway. 🎭.. She pours over brochures from musical productions and forces her friends to recreate musicals in the playground 😬 … It’s always been her. I don’t post this sort of stuff for a variety of reasons, but my heart EXPLODES with joy seeing her in her zone. She entered her first little singing comp🥇and placed 1st. 🥹 #broadway #defyinggravity

(You’re making a film in 48 hours!) .. lol the 5120 x 1080 format @joelbp x NTSFF: I entered @agbofilms No Sleep ‘til Film Fest in 2022 after DOOM scrolling (cheeky Avengers ref.) and coming across @therussobrothers throwing down the challenge of creating a film in 48 hours. “… I WILL ACCEPT YOUR CHALLENGE JOE AND ANTHONY RUSSO”, I said. On a personal note, I just wanted an excuse to create something, so it became the perfect catalyst… 💥 Regardless of how little I was prepped, I had the best time racing that 48 hour clock. 😅 No sleep.
