Thanks Vasi Hirdo @ceramicsnow for the interview! Follow the link here to see it and interviews with all the exhibiting artists. /articles/the-whole-world-in-our-hands-at-the-stephen-lawrence-gallery/ Here's a snippet: Q 'What message or feeling do you hope viewers take away when experiencing your work in the context of Earth Overshoot Day?' A 'I read, watch and listen to everything I can about early humans, and particularly, early hominin species. The only surviving hominids today, though not necessarily the most successful, are Homo Sapiens – us – due to a creative revelation within our brains and bodies as a consequence of ancient climate change and human nomadism. In other words, our extraordinary creativity and adaptability are something that has got us into the current mess! Donna Haraway’s term (and title of her book) is ‘staying with the trouble’. For me, this suggests persistence and curiosity about the living world. It’s also about adapting materials and technologies in both a new and old way to protect the world and the survival of life in it. It is also, over everything else, about cultivating and practising tenderness for the world.' The Whole World In Our Hands @uoggalleries is open for one more week. Last day next Saturday. @alison.cooke @rosanna_martin_ @sam____lucas @juliaellenlancaster_ceramics @jacquiramraykaceramics Curated by Julia Ellen Lancaster #janemillar #janemillarceramics #wallbasedceramics #wallpainting #thewholeworldintheirhands #stephenlawrencegallery #contemporaryceramics

Thank you @artepollino The MACC is a museum because it preserves, but it is also a residence, a school, a refuge, a construction site, a community. A place where definitions are dismantled and relationships are rebuilt. Where art is the tool for inhabiting a territory, understanding it, and respecting it. An experience that leaves a mark, that invites you to return. And above all, to imagine new ways of being in the world together. MACC is a project by @stephenelson2015 @kmw2810 ♥️ In the photo, the work "Restless" by @jmillarstudio #art #territory #internalareas #community #visions Reposted from @artepollino Il MACC è museo perché custodisce, ma è anche residenza, scuola, rifugio, cantiere, comunità. Introducing our Foundation Diploma tutors! @jmillarstudio teaches the second year Visual Studies programme and Contextual Studies, as part of our exciting Friday Workshop sessions in the first year. She is also the Foundation Diploma coordinator. She runs Fine Art Textiles classes @putney_schoolofartanddesign and offers these to Diploma students as a second year specialism. Jane is an artist and curator. Her art practice is in hand built wall-based clay and ceramic sculptures, occasionally installed with wall paintings and as site response. Her work expresses speculative future narratives about relationships between a human and a more-than-human environment. Her research in early humans and human species asks questions about purpose and belief, about how environmental changes shape our making, and how objects can apparently shift from practical uses to imaginal and magical purposes. Everything she makes with clay starts with the idea of energy within the unseen interior of an object and its actions on a surface. /news Jane studied at Canterbury College of Art and the Royal College of Art. She also studied Education in Museums and Galleries at UoE London. She has exhibited extensively in UK and Europe. She is a member of the Associated Clayworkers Union @clayworkers Notable recent exhibitions include 'Restless', a site-responsive installation for the Museo D’Arte Contemporanea di Cogliandrino, Basilicata, 2025 @maccogliandrino ; The Whole World In Our Hands, Stephen Lawrence Gallery, 2025; Between the Floor and the Wall @thamessidestudiosse18 ; Lost and Found @blyth_arts and selection for the Creekside Opens 2017 and 2019. Her curated projects include the Curious Art trails at West Norwood Cemetery 2012 & 2013, Conway Actants @conwayhall , New Doggerland and Shadders @project78gallery . She also co-curates rooms with fellow artist and Foundation Diploma tutor @thesarahsparkes at Bell House, for the Dulwich Festival @artistsopenhse . . . . . . . . . . . #janemillar #artfoundationcourse #putneyschoolofartanddesign #contemporaryceramics

A new Brush Pot, on a yellow shelf, in a pinkish painted 'Chamber' wall installation... Paint brushes as practical and magical tools...which I find beautiful when they are bunged up with dried paint, and don't work anymore. 👀👀Scroll for more images, including the whole installation. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . #janemillar #studiowall #contemporaryceramic #newceramics #ceramicsculpture

Studio Sounds from artist Jane Millar ‘Most of the time, especially when I am thinking, drawing and exploring how my work might move, I prefer to have quiet and the sounds of my surroundings. I struggle with music that expresses emotional extremes in the studio - I have to stop working. I listen to a lot of podcasts when I am doing things like coating work with glazes, painting on the wall, or repetitive building with clay - my favourite podcast is currently the Bureau of Lost Culture (accessed on Spotify) I have also really enjoyed the People who Eat Weeds podcast.´ @jmillarstudio @bureauoflostculture #eatweedspodcast #studiosounds
