With the release of the major film “Michael,” and a resurgence of his name and music, I went back to find a set of portraits I made at the public memorial service for Michael Jackson, held July 7, 2009 at the old Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles.
For the photo geeks, these were made with my 45mm tilt-shift lens and a single softbox.
The impact of MJ’s music is not totally measurable, but we know he was an incredible world-phenomena. This collection of fans I found outside his memorial was a testament to how diverse an audience he had.

I have to say, 2016 was an AWESOME year of making portraits! I got to use my 4x5 camera A LOT, and used the heck out of the @new55film ! Sadly, I had to stop using the film, as I had more and more emulsion problems, but it was fun using Perl-apart film, with a negative and I made some crazy one-of-a-kind images with some very recognizable faces! 2016 is also the year I received my #bigbrucecamera, an 8x10-inch film camera and upped the challenge of time-restraints and making celebrity portraits! One of the first projects I did with it was create my quadrennial portrait series of Olympic athletes from SoCal. Calling it a challenge is an understatement, but damn did it feel great at the end, with a portfolio of such unique images, plus, as a bonus, I received a World Press photo award for the work!

Anthony Norman is genuine, honest and has a huge heart - the key to success on this show that launched with “Jury Duty” and upped the game for this second season, with more cast, more cameras and tons more variables that could have ended the show early!
Had a blast at this #FYC event moderated by @adamdevine celebrating all things “Rockin’ Grandma’s” including her infamous “Jerk” sauce, created by Dougie Jr., AKA, Alex Bonifer. The scene where he introduces his newest creation for the family-owned business is one of the funniest scenes and had the entire crowd (and me again) in tears!
You know he’d be an awesome James Bond!
A great night at the Billy Wilder Theater with the creative team of “Bait” from @primevideo and the awesome @dunkwun as moderator.
@rizahmed created, produced and stars in this wild story following a young British-Pakistani actor with dreams of becoming the next James Bond. First episodes directed by @curry_crayola and an incredible soundtrack from music supervisor Ciara Elwis. Co-showrunner/EP/and writer Ben Katlin and EP Allie Moore joined them for the Q&A.

A fun #fyc event with the team behind “Young Sherlock,” on @primevideo including the charming @hero_ft@donal.finn@zinetseng and EP @marcresteghini
The series, exec produced by Guy Ritchie, who also directed the first two episodes, is a great “prequel” (but not directly!) to the modern era films (including Ritchie’s versions with RDJ) exploring a younger friendship between Sherlock and Moriarty and Zine contributing some ass-kicking skills along with feminine smarts! A fun show to binge for sure.

Psyched to collab w/ @vancityreynolds and #ColinHanks and being able to document Ryan and @chriscandy4ever recreate the great one-sheet from “Planes, Trains and Automobiles,” starring Steve Martin and John Candy! We were also lucky to have THE burned out ride from the movie, which made another fun group pic!
This is such a heartfelt doc, giving us an amazing portrait of this comedic legend, a must see!
