I’ve produced A LOT of shoots over the two decades I’ve been in the biz, but this might be the most special one yet. Thank you @kwakualston for having us. It’s always a pleasure and the best time on set with you. Can’t wait to see what’s next. Read full post below. 🤘🏻⚡️🫶🏻. #Repost @kwakualston ・・・ Three sets. One stage. Limited time with talent. No room for mistakes. Working on a project like Michael, balancing stills and directing motion, is all about the art of negotiation, production, timing, coordination, and getting the right team of trusted creatives in place. From the start, we knew space would be a challenge, multiple sets on one stage, with three teams moving in sync to maximize time with talent and hit our creative goals. Two stills sets and one main motion set, each with its own lighting approach. My job was simple: capture iconic moments that bridge reality with the art of illusion, especially when telling the story of someone as recognizable as Michael Jackson. My stills team, led by lighting tech and set DJ @bradenmoran , alongside DP @jeffv0 on motion, all anchored by @3star_productions , kept everything aligned with the studio, key art agency creatives, and the film crew. Over 60 people on set, all moving as one to create something we knew would be iconic. Our approach for the motion segment was a modern take on the Motown 25 performance, honoring the legacy while bringing a cinematic edge. We built out a stage to give @jaafarjackson the space to truly perform, dialing in everything from Moonwalk friendly flooring to the lighting to capture that glide and presence. Photo geek moment, had to do it. We added a soft bloom star filter for a touch of glam, and the wardrobe team recreated the iconic Billie Jean socks… so when the light hit just right, that sparkle carried the magic. ✨✨✨ BTS 📸 @chase_hirt

Since getting his start as a child star, Bateman has been a near-constant onscreen presence in film and TV. Adept in both comedy and drama—moving between “Zootopia” and “Arrested Development” to “Ozark” and “Black Rabbit”—he’s also won honors as both an actor and a director. As one third of the SmartLess podcast, alongside Sean Hayes and Will Arnett, he’s interviewed everyone from Neil deGrasse Tyson to Paul Thomas Anderson to Jon Bon Jovi—and, once, Presidents Biden, Obama, and Clinton, all at the same time. … @JasonBateman for @Esquire Winter 25/26 🥶❄️☃️ Photographed By Mark Seliger @markseliger Styled by Mark Holmes @styleitholmes Grooming by Ericka Verrett @ericka_verrett Set Design by Lux Wright @luxalot Backdrops by Katherine Aungier @711grandave Tailoring by Suzy Yun @suzyyun Production by Jill Roy at 3Star Productions @jillroy @3Star_Productions @russlemkin Special Thanks to Ruth Levy at Seliger Studio @boomboomlevy Esquire Design Director Martin Hoops @mhoopsdesign Esquire Visual Director: James Morris @j_alexander_photo Esquire Entertainment Director: Andrea Cuttler @angcutt Esquire Editor-in-Chief: Michael Sebastian @michaeljsebastian

@ethannoahroyphoto ・・・ Back in September, I was assigned by @esquire to photograph a story on one of the most dangerous ICE detention centers in Eloy, AZ and the town that harbors it. Rowan Moore Gerety’s reporting is out today. There is a legend in Eloy, AZ on the origins of its name. Its original name was Eloi after a railroad worker looked out into the desert and yelled in Hebrew “Eloi, Eloi, Lama sabachthani?!” This translates to “My god, my god, why hast thou forsaken me.” I spent two days in the town of 15,600 people. Most businesses were shut down, homes boarded up and only about 2 people roamed the streets besides the manager of the VA. That said, police cruisers were pristine. A few miles down the road stands the Eloy ICE detention center. Per a 2024 financial report, about 1592 employees work for Core Civic in Eloy. ICE estimates that the beds at these facilities cost $165 per day. In Eloy, about 1,400 of those beds are occupied. I met a man who lives across the street from the prison. He recently bought a mobile church and set up shop next door with his wife. We actually ran past each other the day before at the Charlie Kirk memorial while I was working for ZEIT. He told me that he believe Eloy is a magical place but the prison casts a dark shadow over the land. I asked if he works with those in side the prison. “All the time” he said. “They’ve seen some horrible things and my calling is to halo them out if that despair”. I asked him to clarify if he was referring to those detained or the employees. “The guards” he said, “I haven’t spoken with the prisoners yet”. I asked him if he would. He looked at me and decided to turn in for the night. Thank you so much @j_alexander_photo for the call! *note: I worked hard to get inside with no success. Instead I was tailed by the police and was threatened to be arrested for trespassing. . . . #documentaryphotography #reportage #photojournalism #eloy #az #arizona #ice #detentioncenter #desert #immigration

Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson is basically as famous as a person can get. Scheduling an interview with him is like trying to set up a coffee date with the king of England. After months of back and forth, the writer Sam Anderson visited his farm in Georgia. They were scheduled to talk for four hours but ended up talking for more than eight. The conversation did not end there. After the interview, Anderson started to receive voice memos and videos from Johnson: thoughts, stories, further questions. Hour after hour, text after text, the topic he and Johnson returned to was pain, a central theme of his new film “The Smashing Machine,” which tells the story of Mark Kerr, a former professional wrestler who swallowed so much pain it nearly killed him. To play him, @therock knew he’d need to tap into the reservoirs of his own life. He felt desperately ready to do so. Read the full story at the link in our bio. We are so happy to share this one with the world as it was a beast of a job @verizon . Every single person who worked on this one or contributed in any way knows all the blood, sweat and tears that we poured into it to make this incredible campaign. Lots of looooong days and nights went into prepping and shooting. 8 locations over 6 days, 38 OCP’s, 36 extras, and 60+ people on set everyday. To say we walked away feeling like champs is an understatement! We did that! Thank you, again, to everyone involved in making this happen. ______________________ Client - @Verizon Photographer - Jake Stangel @jakestangel Associate Director, Creative Marketing – Jenny Barrer Manager, Creative Marketing – Marcos Baistrocchi Associate Creative Director – Andi Restrepo @pianpianpian Art Director – Chris Garvey Design Director – Oliver Lo Creative Director – Jared Briton Executive Creative Director – Michael Raso Creative Director – Nickie Thongton Senior Producer – Joyce Roughley, Karen Rossiter Account Director – Alex Castellanos Managing Director – Alex Henderson Art Director – Edom Tilahun Agent – Jen Jenkins @giantartists Photo Assistants – @alangastelum_ , David Paul, Natalie Obermaier, Kevin Gray DIT – Luz Gallardo Executive Producer – Jill Roy @jillroy @3star_productions Production Supervisor – Michael Kachuba Production Manager – Kari Dexter @karibombbomb Production Coordinator – Ryan Noble @honolulugunclub 1st AD – Jimmy @radiojimmyb 2nd AD – Roki Torres @r0k_it Production Assistants – Gabriel Ibawi-Thomas, Octavio Genera, Ethan Roy, Marlon Johnson, Elijah Chandler Craft Services – Kat Kura Props Stylist – Abby Pendergrast @abbypendergrast Production Designer – Taylor Almodovar @Taylor.almodovar Set Builder – Justin Gardner Props Assistants – Kitty Rheault, Yaro Banduro Device Coordinator – Jake Kulat Props PA – Shawn Averill, David Sayes, Blake Washington HMU – Nichole Servin @thenicholeservin @3plusmgmt HMU Assistant – Antonio Ferrer, Lolly Alcaraz Costume Designer – Ric Renae Hughes @ricrenea 2nd Assistant (Costume) – Kishu Did Chand Costume PA – Mariah Alcantar Truck PA – Joven Buado, Max Hollingshead Locations Manager – John Rizzi Casting – @rosslacycasting
