In the spirit of resolutions, I recently indulged in a much-needed hiatus from my creative endeavors to figure out what I really want to do with my life. I know that’s a pretty big question to ask myself at such a young age. Still, after waiting for life to happen for so long—while mindlessly experiencing it and being completely dissatisfied—I’ve decided to take life by the reins and rediscover the control I’ve had all along. Although there’s a sense of responsibility that is required when determining my path, I’ve reconciled with the act of letting go of ideas (or, more aptly, expectations) that were holding me back. Navigating my career as a shy, introverted girlie has been slightly overwhelming (especially in an industry that depends on connections). After reading (once, lol) The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron, I realized there is more to being creative than researching for hours on Pinterest, working to no avail, and procrastinating on weeks-old projects. We need the Artist Date to reinvigorate ourselves and discover new meanings in our work, outside of our moodboards. Authentic experiences with yourself, family, and friends are what truly inspire us all to continue being our imaginative selves. So if you’re feeling a little burnt out, don’t forget to touch some grass once in a while. It may have what you’re looking for…🤍
