#DirtyLaundryLabyrinth 2025-26
a public art installation By @jevpic #everettesolomon
When I was little I thought clotheslines were decorations for the outdoors & as an adult artist I see the necessity, the nostalgia & the metaphors associated with them. I started thinking about how people like familiarity, if it’s joy or pain and how some of us can get stuck in it, voluntarily or not. So I created a piece of art called the Dirty Laundry Labyrinth, it’s a clothesline maze of clothes that have been painted white which symbolize purity and forgiveness. I chose articles of clothes that represent disenfranchised groups such as an apron for women’s rights, overalls for farmers, a prison uniform for the wrongfully incarcerated, an all brown Native American vibe, a military uniform, several all black outfits, a rainbow flag shirt & a flannel shirt for the good old small town boys like me. The maze is easy you enter at one end and you exit the other end, and walla, you just aired out your laundry. I’m not trying to save the world just wanted to create an exercise to remind us to try not to be lost or stuck and to remind us that a stains aren’t permanent they can be washed out as simply as walking out the Labyrinth.
