These days, I think about the kid growing up that used to love to sing a lot. The kid who came home from school and would look up karaoke videos on YouTube and learn whatever was on the radio. The kid who went to the music room at lunch or free periods to play piano and sing for a good release. The kid everyone knew loved to sing. It’s weird growing up and trying to capitalise on something you once genuinely loved. The pursuit of wanting to sing everyday for the rest of your life eventually became the very thing that took the joy out of it. These days I’m trying to reconnect to what singing once did for me. I’m doing random karaoke nights by myself and belting (whilst crying) Somewhere Only We Know?? The Hercules Soundtrack?? Lego house ?? Anything that takes me back - it’s fucking great. Tomorrow night I’ve signed up to be a part of a cute community music night. There’ll be three songwriters and we’ll be taking turns playing a song each and having wholesome introspective chats about it for a few rounds @passpauseplay I’ll be using tomorrow as another chance to bring it back and remind myself to just… sing… and to share stories, because that’s kind of the whole point of music right? something very special that I’m proud of emerged into the world this week ✨ I met @iamkarlou a few years back at songwriting camp, I remember I was crashing out over a boy (surprise surprise) and Karz read our texts and helped a brother out. we bonded over our love for @chelseacutler @jeremyzucker and from there we wrote a banger ‘Bitter’, which unexpectedly but unsurprisingly did really well on Spotify & editorials.. beginning our writing relationship together. we’ve penned a few great tracks since then, but when Karz hit me up a few months ago with some very big news and wanted to write a song about it - I felt so so incredibly privileged to be trusted with his story.
