‘Birley Spa Day’ after a trip to the intriguing Birley Spa indoor stream fed pool with @melanouri
‘Everything must go’ after a visit to the old Wilkos in Hillsborough now run by @hyphastudios
‘A Smaller Splash’ of an encounter with a dried up paddling pool in Cleethorpes with @swseanwilliams Everything Hockney is not.
All oil on canvas and all will be up in my studio for @openupsheffield
They’re already here (2026) oil on linen will be in the first round proper of A Bell is a Cup starting next week at Bloc Projects. In the spirit of football tournaments, I’ll be drawn against another artist so we can play off or around each other. A beautiful game. Please come along if you can. I’m delivering today and am excited.
This picture is a response to encountering last summer the abandoned theater in Harlech on an at risk list of significant 20th century buildings. It straddles a cliff on long struts like it arrived from another planet sometime in the 60’s, got stuck here and now can never return home.
Monkey Business (2026) oil on board. A fairground monkey in the garden at the fitties on the Humber: I couldn’t resist. Made for the @auto___amor project. A different and interesting way to submit- have a look if you’d like to make something for them
I'll be your mirror (2026) oil on Linen. After a walk with my sister last spring, where we found an abandoned works on a disused railway line. The repeated apertures put me in mind of the multiple reflections that you get when you hold up one mirror to another. And (if I needed another and) I love the VU song.
For more on mirrors and optics in art, Hockney's Secret Knowledge is a must read.
Been collecting images of lost gloves this January as I’ve been walking about then making very quick postcard sketches. They seem to say something about their previous owners, but also about loss and (an often)missing other half. Will they ever go home again?
Studio wall at the end of January: working both slowly and quickly, on too many things at once. Scattered. Theres all kinds of things happening here: big cats, dry cleaning, clay heads made ( by me and Mr.SW) and left at Spurn Head, the statue of Queen Vic spray painted in the local park. Yes I know it’s all over the place. Now it’s time to choose which way. If anyone has a map please share.
