Through our WAVE Grant, we have been actively invested in finding the best emerging talent to share their stories. Since its inception in 2020, the WAVE Grant has selected 5 first-time directors to receive a seed grant and year-round intensive mentorship from our award-winning teams and industry professionals. Our vision is to build a sustainable pipeline of bold, new storytellers and help launch their careers through mentorship, industry connections, and community. In addition to the seed funding, the WAVE Grant has partnered with several organizations to provide in-kind services for the filmmakers: this includes a @filmindependent fiscal sponsorship, a five-part @seedandspark workshop series covering crowdfunding, budgeting, and distribution that is open to the grantees as well as anyone who applied for the WAVE Grant, @fujifilmx_us cameras and lenses, one year-long @wetransfer ultimate subscription, color grading and post-finishing services provided by @niceshoesonline . We’re excited to share a sneak peek into the impactful films our 2026 WAVE Grantees are developing - listen here!

I spent this past week in my hometown, engaged in meetings as we have assembled a fabulous team who all love McGregor as much as I do; revisiting, retracing old steps and laying the groundwork for new ones. Amid all of the conversations about jello, gas pumps, and burgers, I’m reminded of how important it is to be present, take stock of the current moment and slow down. So much of our lives are lived for the future, and we plan and we plan and we plan. McGregor remains one of the few places on Earth where you can just be. I love this town. What started as a kernel of an idea, has grown into a full-blown development project with real vision and heart. As a producer, this is what I know - when talented and passionate people come together, amazing things happen. This process of building and creating has brought so much joy, and yes, there are challenges, but there's no better feeling than knowing that you are bringing something very special to life. Our goal is simple - to invite and involve as many people as possible who either live in or grew up in McGregor. Thank you to Angie Soulli, Brenda Boeke and Sallee Scarff Muehlberger for being a part of this journey with us, I cannot wait to share more soon.

Last week, I had the opportunity to speak at the annual Parkinson’s Policy Forum, I told my own story of living with Parkinson’s to hundreds of advocates across the nation who came together in DC to meet with lawmakers to create momentum. This was a deeply personal and moving experience, there was so much I wanted to say - but mostly, what I shared with everyone was the importance of living with JOY and spreading it to anyone, and EVERYONE, around you. Joy feeds the very system the disease is attacking. Every time you do something that brings you joy, you are literally fueling the system that Parkinson’s is trying to starve. That’s not wishful thinking. That’s neuroscience. And it means the most important work we do every day – finding what moves us and protecting it – is not a luxury. It’s medicine. That’s why we need research funding. Because the science is telling us something extraordinary, and we need more of it. Before Parkinson’s, I didn’t know what dopamine was. Now I’m basically a chemist. A tired chemist. With a tremor. My why with Parkinson’s is clear: everyday, I’m finding and building joy. Every day, I’m finding and building purpose. I’m building a life where I know what I need, I fight for it, and I don’t let anyone – not the disease, not well-meaning friends, not even my own despair – take it from me. My message to my fellow friends and community…find your why. Trust yourself. Find ways to create joy. Believe that you are loved. Keep on self-advocating. And please, laugh a lot. You already know how to explain your own experience to someone who doesn’t live it. You already know how to be persistent when you’re not being heard. You already know how to keep showing up. Because let’s face it -- no day is ever the same. Some days we’re galloping. Some days we’re just trying to get our pants on. Both count. Thank you to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for asking me to speak, and to the strategic and community partners for building this room. You made this possible - and I’m grateful for the continued attention and galvanizing around advocacy for Parkinson's research so that one day, all our days can feel the same. #PDPolicyForum

The power of real acceptance, and not the kind that’s easy or performative, is meeting people exactly where they are, even when it’s hard, even when it challenges every assumption you’ve ever had.
