Big news! 🎬✨ Our founder @iamajdillard is stepping into the executive producer’s chair for “Culture Shock” — a bold, new, heartfelt pilot created by thee amazing talented Khalil Louigene 🙌🏾
Starring Alex Fontes (@alex_fontes_ ) Nala Mccalla (@nala2166 ) and many more, Culture Shock follows a freshly transferred BFA student named Steven who is suddenly dropped into the cultural deep end. The series tracks his chaotic first semester navigating a department full of brutally honest classmates, emotionally unavailable professors, and enough “artistic tension” to power a midtown black box for years. The program he has found himself in is not just an acting program — it’s a whole new world, and Steven’s about to find out what it really means to perform under pressure.
Culture Shock is a sharp, character-driven dramedy exploring identity, privilege, and the beautiful mess of culture clashes. With humor, heart, and an unfiltered lens on the realities of performance training, the series amplifies underrepresented voices and shines a light on the often unseen struggles of young actors fighting to be taken seriously — all while figuring themselves out đźŽâšˇď¸Ź
We can’t wait for you to see what we’ve been cooking up 📺đź’

Dear black women,
When we first began working on this film, we had one goal: to tell the Brownmill origin story and shine a light on the young black men at the heart of its impact. But over the last 18 months of researching, filming, and editing, some of the most awe-inspiring, innovative, and Brownmill-dedicated people we met have been black women.
Since its inception, and down to its literal namesake, Brownmill has championed black women. In (significant) part, Brownmill was named after a black woman. Whether it's through featuring womanist icons in their designs, collaborating with black women stylists, or hiring numerous black women to join their executive team... Brownmill has never missed an opportunity to celebrate and acknowledge black women's brilliance.
This film is an homage to them as much as an homage to the founders. If it weren't for all the black women who purchased a T-shirt, a pair of socks, or a scarf in those early days of production, chances are Brownmill would not be what it is today.
If it weren't for all the sistas who pull up to the block parties, put their partners, co-workers, and friends on to Brownmill, chances are Brownmill would not be what it is today.
Lastly, if the black women in the lives of Taha, Justis, and Kwaku had not poured into them and convinced them they were capable of building something major, chances are Brownmill would not exist at all.
So to all the black women who love Brownmill, to all our black woman interviewees, and the black women who've made 49 Halsey Street what it is, we thank you 🤎 Thank you for being all that you are, for believing us...in the guys, and for uplifting the culture each and every day. We are nothing without you.
Much love always,
Your friends on the crew of "Atelier: The Story of Brownmill Company"
