Time flies. 8 years ago today was this hallucination of a gig: I was on tour and for the Athens GA show at
@flickertheatre , my longtime co-conspirator AJ Griffin put together a one-off supergroup of Athens musicians named Ear Ear to close out the show. Ear Ear was an all-improvisational "band" whose instrumentation and mood for each piece of music was determined by each member rolling a dice and spinning a wheel to come up with which instrument they would play and with what emotion would lead their playing style.
@flagpolemagazine even wrote about it. AJ had me as part of the ensemble too. I remember that I rolled & spun first and got "prideful" and "drums". The ensuing music was chaotic and wonderfully unpredictable. One minute was beautiful and melodic; the next was an impenetrable wall of wild sounds, and repeat. AJ came up with the whole thing and it was really far out and lovely. For me, the biggest highlight was getting to play with one of my musical heroes, Will Cullen Hart from Olivia Tremor Control. @elephant6_recording_company has been a north star for me and my musical journey since high school, so it was one of those life moments that you never forget.
