You donāt need to be skinny to be happy, worthy, or loved.
Itās shocked me how many conversations Iāve had recently with people who want to be skinnier.
Not stronger.
Not healthier.
Not happier.
Skinnier.
For too long, women have been told to be smaller, curvier, to bounce back after pregnancy, and be more of everythingā¦
Now, with the rise and easy access to GLP-1s, that pressure feels louder than ever.
In my teens, I remember doing everything I could to shrink myself to look like āthemā, chasing the āidealā size.
If you let it, that mentality will consume you and steal the joy from all areas of your life. Trust me, itās not worth it!
For the last 5-7 years I have made a committed conscious effort to build the trust, love and respect for myself. To treat my body like a home, a safe space. Of course there are moments where I catch myself saying something negative.
BUT thatās just it! I catch myself and let it only be a moment, not a few hours or a day of punishment and pity. In that moment of pause I often realise itās stemming from something else entirely (time of the month, under slept, work stress etc) and then reframe and redirect my energy to something more meaningful to me!
My tips if you are still becoming friends with yourself:
- Focus on these 3 principles for your mind and your body - feed it, work it, rest it.
- Notice how you are speaking to yourself. Would you say that to someone you love when you are trying to encourage them?
- Filter what you let in - social media, podcasts, your community. You really do become what you surround yourself with!
