👉🏻 Late Friday night, after regular business hours, Ventura County Superintendent Dr. César Morales released a statement acknowledging that he received a stipend from the Ventura County Office of Education that should have gone before the Ventura County Board of Education for approval under California Education Code section 1209. That approval process did not happen. Yes, the funds have now been repaid. But repayment after the fact does not erase the breach of public trust that has occurred here. As your Executive Board Member to the Ventura County Democratic Central Committee, I believe leadership in public education requires transparency, accountability, and adherence to ethical governance standards at all times… especially from those entrusted to oversee our schools, educators, and taxpayer dollars. Because of this, I am publicly calling for Dr. César Morales to resign as Ventura County Superintendent of Schools. This is not about personal destruction. This is not about partisan politics. And this is not about performative outrage. This is about restoring trust in our public institutions. Leaders overseeing public education must be held to the highest ethical standards possible. Accountability cannot become optional simply because someone holds power or influence. I am also calling on elected officials, organizations, labor leaders, and community figures who have publicly endorsed Dr. Morales to reconsider and retract those endorsements. Because silence in moments like this sends a message. Ventura County families deserve leadership that follows the rules. Educators deserve leadership they can trust. And the public deserves transparency from those overseeing our educational system and tax dollars. Accountability matters. Ethical leadership matters. And public trust, once broken, is not easily restored.
