Jazz at the Bolt

As @jazzatthebolt 2026 comes to a close I want to take a second and express the immense gratitude that I’m feeling today and will feel for a long time. I suppose every edition feels different or better. Every year we make tweaks in hopes of improving things just a little bit. This year really did feel different though for so many reasons. The programming brought in a lot of young musicians who are soon to be if not already carrying the torch from New York and from Vancouver (I’m so proud of the scene here) and then the REALLY young musicians, past Fraser MacPherson Scholarship winners who created quite a buzz amongst fans and musicians alike. We had many incredible Vancouver stalwarts all of whom delivered great sets and then of course all of the “headliners” that shows up and engaged with the fans and the other musicians. This particular edition encompassed what I dreamt about when I started it. It was a really beautiful 3 days. So many people to thak but I want to start with @theinfidelsjazz and @williamchernoff You guys are the best! Cool and calm under pressure! EVERYONE at @shadbolt_centre I cherish all of you! To EVERY single volunteer who did the smallest of things right up to the BIG things, I’m so grateful to you. @vancouverjazzorchestra who became our title sponsor this year in a year where we didn’t get government support! THANK YOU! @frankiesjazz @districtbarrestaurant thank you for being an integral part of pulling off what we pulled off! @dunnettclassicdrums @elementburnaby @honeysdoughnuts #tourismburnaby #holidayinnexpressmetrotown @seattlejazzfellowship The biggest thanks, goes to the musicians, who continually amaze and inspire me with their talent and lastly, you the fans who show up, the “bums and seats“ as they say. How the I5 last night and drove to Seattle to pick up a BUNCH of cats for this weekend’s @jazzatthebolt I’m so excited to bring all these people to the festival this year! @ralph.a.moore @lewisnashdrums @kayemode @newyorkp7 @brandon_suarez_ @jacobchungmusic @tylerhendersonm @calebtobocman and @willie.drms @champianfulton and @klaslindquistsax have been in town for a few days and everything is shaping up! It all gets started tomorrow with a sold out show at @shadbolt_centre with the @vancouverjazzorchestra with Fulton and Lindquist with Jacob Chung and his quartet playing at @frankiesjazz and then Brandon Suarez with @david.caballer0 and @arv.ramdas dong the @theinfidelsjazz After Dark set at Frankies at 11pm. That’s just tomorrow! JATB officially starts on Saturday at 11:30 with doors at 11:00 for two days and then its recording central! Ralph’s quartet will be making a record for @cellarlive thanks to @creativebcs and Chung’s Quartet and Henderson’s trio will also be making records for the label! WHAT A WEEK! Oh, and if you’re not doing anything Monday night check out @districtbarrestaurant from 7:00 on for the unofficial after party of the festival. You just never know who is gonna show up and hang! 7pm - whenever! #jazz #thatisall
