FULL CIRCLE MOMENT
When I was 18, working as an extra on the film, “What Women Want” in Chicago, I had the chance to meet one of my acting heroes: Mel Gibson. I was starstruck. Mel had been an icon to me since I was a kid.
One day during lunch, he noticed an open seat at the table where I and other extras were sitting. To my amazement, he sat down with us, humbly asked how we were doing, and even thanked us for braving the cold to be there. He ate a big steak, cracked a few jokes, and left an impression on me that I’ve carried throughout my career: always be kind, humble, and take the time to connect with everyone on set, no matter their role.
Fast forward to now. Spending a month with Mel, not as an extra, but as an actor and one of the producers on a project with him, feels surreal. That wide-eyed 18-year-old kid could never have imagined being here—sharing this space with a legend who inspired him.
On set, Mel was everything I remembered from that lunch and more: generous, funny, and a true professional. He wasn’t just our lead actor; he was the guy cracking dad jokes, keeping the energy light, and treating everyone with respect.
Mel, thank you for the unforgettable experience and for being the same genuine, kind-hearted person I met all those years ago. This journey has been nothing short of extraordinary. 🙌🏽🎬
