The next MUN SongwriterS Circle at The Battery Cafe in old St. John’s will take place at 7pm on Thursday, May 1st and will feature Claire Porter and Avalon Stanley (aka Darryl Hopkins). This will be the last SongwriterS Circle that I’ll be hosting, but the aim is to keep the event up and running with alternate hosts who select their own line up. Stayed tuned. And see you on May 1st. Himself would have been 75 years old today. Here’s a fave pic of mine, taken on his 55th birthday at the Rose and Thistle in St. John’s, exactly 20 years ago. I decided to learn one of his favourite songs - Springsteen’s “Nebraska” - and play it for him. I was so shaky on guitar back then (even though the song is a simple D A & G progression!) that Ron joined me on stage to help me save some face. Was a fun night, good times. Xxx
