AUDIO UP i FINALLY got around to webifying my first piece of generative music, Threnody for a Reed Organ, made way back in 2018. threnody was made to immortalize a rapidly-deteriorating 100+ year-old reed organ before it lost its voice for good — the organ itself was rescued from imminent scrapping in standord, ct. the composition itself uses weighted probabilities to play through 6 possible chordal and choral arrangements, each with strict rules on which chord they can next progress to. the audio runs ad infinitum for as long as you keep the window open — leave it on in the background and it’ll continue to sing in perpetuity. made with rnbo~ from @c74connect the webpage likewise features a photogrammetric scan of the organ itself, taken with a phone. there are no records on this particular organ’s incredibly storied history, but from its dozens of nicks, hand-carved initials, and spots of dried wood laminate, it was loved long before it wound up in my care. also!! the project is OPEN SOURCE, you can take this code and do anything you’d like with it, just remember to credit me!! also featuring my stitched-up thumb lol, happy new year

back from a posting break with a huge update: dayflower developed interactives, provided programming support, and oversaw Wordpress implementation of @voxdotcom ‘s Future Perfect 50 list for 2024!! the culmination of hundreds of hours of work from an entire team of incredible journalists, designers, editors, and developers, this year’s FP 50 features custom-built interactives for randomizing profiles, as well as an incredible Ceros implementation. dayflower stepped in to provide code to keep things running smoothly and efficiently, from the guts of the randomizer’s functionality to the package’s thorough HTML deep linking integration. endless thanks to the Vox Future Perfect team for bringing me on, and, as always, stay tuned for new updates!! we’ve got a TON of new stuff we’ve been working on the last few months we can’t wait to share!
