A few weeks ago I was at the @nielgowfestival in Dunkeld and Birnam, Perthshire. There were so many inspiring classes, concerts and sessions 🎻🎻🎻🎻🏴🏴🏴
But I was feeling sad because my mum died in January, and this was a place we often went as a family as it’s where my grandfather was born and raised. And it’s my great-grandfather’s fiddle I play - he worked as a gardener at an estate nearby, Rohallion. So I went to visit the family grave, and finally felt brave enough to get my fiddle out and play. It was very comforting, and I got a compliment- even though I’m a million miles away from playing like Alastair Fraser who you can hear here - but I did manage the same tune! And maybe crying while playing a lament made it a bit better…
You can read more about it in my latest Substack newsletter, link in profile

I stayed up waaay past my bedtime on Friday night to join @summer.pierre ‘s comics night with @comicsworkshop - it was so worth it!
Summer got us exploring the idea of the little angel and devil sitting on our shoulders trying to persuade us to be good/bad. Here’s me as a crocodile, being unable to resist the lure of the sunshine outside when really I should be working. All too true ☀️☀️☀️☀️
Thankyou Summer, and thankyou SAW! It was really nice being a student for a while 🥰🥰
Do check out all the lovely events offered by @comicsworkshop
By the way if anyone fancies joining me for more comics fun, I have just a couple of spots left in my morning and afternoon groups of my online comics class starting this Wednesday, 22nd April - see link in bio for all the details,

A few recent pleasures, from Lindisfarne to Pimlico… highly recommend a visit to the current exhibition at @japanhouseldn and Beatriz Gonzales at @barbicancentre
- and also look at the tiny treasures I bought at the new Buttermarket in Berwick upon Tweed! I will be having a stall there myself this coming Saturday with prints, comics, drawings and more so do come and say hello if you’re in the area @berwick_markets
Thanks for having me, @selborneprimarysch - I had a ball making up stories with the children and was so impressed with their brilliant ideas and enthusiasm. Happy #WorldBookDay everyone- heading home to put my feet up with a book 📚 📚📚❤️
I’m thrilled to be picked to be part of the @gll_literaryfoundation 2026 cohort and I’m looking forward to working with @jen.hawke1@octoberjonesco and @rebeccagediking to develop workshops for schools and libraries this year. Thankyou GLL for this brilliant opportunity - it’s really special for me to do something so closely linked to libraries - I’m a life-long library lover! And thankyou @otterbarrybooks for nominating me!

I took my home-made banner to the @pulltheplug_ai March today - the first March ever calling for a pause in the terrifyingly rapid development of AI. I was joined by author/illustrator friends @angelabrooksbankbooks@nicolakent and @gedadamson who are among many of us very concerned that AI is being trained on the copyrighted work of creatives. And there are many, many other worries about the impact of this on our lives, I tried to capture them in the banner.
There were excellent speakers, and it was good to be part of something calling for a slowing down.

I made a banner for tomorrow’s #marchagainstthemachines organised by @pulltheplug_ai
As an author/illustrator and as a human being I watch with dismay as AI firms pillage our creativity without permission or payment then sell a second-rate version back to the world. Meanwhile we will all simply lose the ability to think. Looking forward to seeing @nicolakent there and anyone else who can come along! 12.00 near King’s Cross, see @pulltheplug_ai for details.
