Very proud to be a Hammers fan tonight. Went to see this incredibly powerful and important documentary about Clyde Best who played for West Ham alongside Bobby Moore and Geoff Hurst. Clyde travelled from the Bahamas aged 17 on his own to trial for West Ham arriving in London during a very volatile time for black culture. Clyde was not the 1st black football player to play in the league but he was one of the first black football players during the age of TV. West Ham were the first team in the UK to field three black football players in a match, alongside Ade Coker and Clive Charles. Clyde had a huge impact on other black football players who idolised Clyde and followed in his path, all interviewed in this doc including footballing heroes John Barnes, Ian Wright and Les Ferdinand.

Fresh off our packed February screenings, im super proud and excited to announce that next month's Morland Estate Film Club features myself in conversation with one of the best modern British filmmakers in Jamie Thraves.
Extremely underrated talent who literally remorgated his own home to fund his 3rd feature film 'Treacle Jr'. Doesn't get anymore independent than that.
Thraves has worked with some of the most genuinely talented actors in the UK and Ireland including Aidan Gillen, Paddy Considine and Kate Ashfield and its a privilège to have him screen his feature debut 'The Low Down' as well as his short 'The Hackney Downs' in front of a live audience. Fitting films as they showcase a pre gentrified Hackney.
He also directed the beautiful Radiohead music video 'Just' back in the 90s.

Mike’s done some great stuff most notably shooting a couple of episodes of the superb drama ‘The Staircase’ starring Colin Firth & Toni Collette.
I had the immense pleasure of meeting Diane Keaton in person in her offices on the Disney lot in L.A. She was a fan of my short film ‘I Just Want To Kiss You’ starring Martin Freeman and she was interested in me directing a project starring Drew Barrymore.
Diane was everything you imagined her to be, smart, kind and hilarious. These were the days before mobile phones. She left a voicemail on my phone machine once. I should have kept it. The film sadly didn’t happen but I was deeply honoured she wanted to work with me in the first place. I was a huge fan of hers. Very sad to hear about her passing.

The film is screening on the opening night of the London Short Film Festival as part of emerging filmmakers from the 90’s alongside early shorts from Carol Morley and Peter Strickland on Friday 17th at Curzon Soho, will also be there for a Q&A
