12 years sober today! And tomorrow we open my recovery play Off-Broadway! There’s a blizzard! My husband is hot! My parents are trapped at the Marriott in midtown! I feel scared about how my gay little earnest drunky play will be received! I could not be more proud of it! I’ve had too much coffee! Life on life’s terms is a constant exercise in powerless and finding a way to laugh! My life is fuller than I every dreamed of! Here’s another sentence that ends in an exclamation mark! Sharing this play with audiences this year has been surreal, moving, and deeply life-affirming. It’s also been vulnerable and complicated! But ultimately, I feel grateful to be able to pass along the message that was given to me: Addiction is baffling but recovery is possible. Letting go is a productive act. You will find a way to laugh again. All of your dreams will come true, but never in the way that you imagine they will. Your worst day might very well lead to your best day. I owe everything to the icon that is Julie Winger @julie.winger and to my sober friends and family. Grateful beyond belief.

Yay recovery! Yay theatre! Yay to an amazing year of getting to birth a new recovery play! Hey hey hey! Such a special week getting to work on FAMILY WEEKEND with some of my favorite artists in the world! Thanks to @gtupchurch who flew in from France (?!) to help me shepherd this one into the world and for @craiglucas1951 for being a total mensch at every turn as we developed our plays together! The @oneill_center is gorgeous and dreamy! The @recoveryartsproject is changing the world! The @terrencemcnallyfoundation is responsible for so much of my joy over this lady stretch! I couldn’t be more grateful for the entire team that has helped me craft a play unlike any of my others!
