How do you turn a cast of humans into Jellicle Cats?
Andrew looks back on the early days of creating CATS and the journey behind one of theatre’s most unexpected hits.
The idea to bring T.S. Eliot’s poems to the stage was already very bold. Add a theatre-in-the-round experience with the audience rotating around the action, and CATS instantly felt special.
Then came Gillian Lynne’s challenge of turning humans into Jellicle cats. 45 years later, it still feels instantly recognisable.
