Still can’t believe I had the chance to both attend and speak at @atypi_org this year—truly unforgettable! Thank you so much @bymonotype for making it possible; I’ll be forever grateful! I got to share the stage with Ryota Doi and Tao Di where we delved into CCJK Type design from both professional and foreign type designers’ perspectives. My part focused on the insights I gained during my internship at @bymonotype in Tokyo where I was mentored by Akira Kobayashi and Ryota Doi, as well as what I learned from the incredible calligraphy class I took alongside (thank you again Ayumi!). It was so nice to reconnect with friends and meet so many inspiring people, under the beautiful blue skies of Copenhagen. Thank you @atypi_org ! ✨🇩🇰 📸 @willieeeeee4624 @thanhpolverel @theo.azemard Ryota Doi

(2/2) Here is the marble engraved. I’m glad with the result even though there are little chips 🔨 It’s got me curious to try carving other types of stone next 🗿

(1/2) October’s 2024 lapidary engraving workshop at @dsaadt Back at it with a stunning piece of marble again! 🗿 Started with sketches, transferred the design onto the stone, and engraving. Hard job but it’s fascinating to watch the light slowly bring the drawing to life✨

Master’s dissertation done at @dsaadt ! 🐥 This is an extract from my research on Japanese latin fonts, exploring their origin to their use today within the Japanese writing system. I examine whether the specific typographic characteristics of the Japanese and Latin writing systems constitute an obstacle or a constructive constraint to designing a shared space. After providing an overview of the history of Japanese scripts systems and the arrival of latin in Japan through Jesuit missions, I explored the singularities and interplay of both Latin and Japanese scripts.

Here's a variation of the drawbot animation made with @hugojourdan (and thanks to the patience and help of @shespoke2me )🕺featuring the first draft of a new sans sketched the other day. It wasn't convincing at first, but I found my answer on the cover of Black Survival by Roy Brooks & The Artistic Truth✨while leafing through a jazz covers anthology book I borrowed from @shespoke2me

Glimpse of the funky shapes of MfBohm's Extrabold Italic (w/ @shespoke2me ) 👀. The animation was made using drawbot during a workshop with @hugojourdan 🔧 (@abcdinamo ) thanks to his precious help ⭐️.

My classmates and I had the chance to experience marbled paper in December 2023. Thank you @lespetitesmains for introducing your field to us. It was refreshing to make something with our hands 🙌

Still late 🏄 some pictures of my BA project June 2023. First draft. - Following my BA post-graduate dissertation went the idea of designing a collection of contemporary bilingual Japanese short stories aimed at intermediate learners. 📚 My aim was twofold: to offer both a more accessible reading medium and an alternative learning tool.

I’ve integrated a means of revising vocabulary using a red filter which also offers the possibility of reading with or without help (particles are coloured, ruby next to kanji).
As reading a language you’re learning requires note-taking and back-and-forth between the book and the dictionary, I’ve chosen to target the help provided. Everything (vocabulary, French translation, note space) is divided according to the Japanese text, page by page.

In the course of my research, I was advised by a lecturer at INALCO and a Japanese language student @bangeden3 😉 who were able to take my ideas further. 🫶
