As the winner of the NYU Orchestra Composer Residency, @nyuniversity followed my process writing the symphony, which was about the events of the Tulsa Race Massacre.
Today marks the 103rd anniversary of the “single worst incident of racial violence in American history,” yet not enough people have heard about this.
With many states banning books and certain aspects of history, the purpose of my symphony feels more important than ever before, and I am so grateful of the opportunity that @nyusteinhardt@nyuniversity awarded me this year.

Congratulations to the four winners of the ARTZenter Emerging Composer Completion Grant project (August 2025 cohort): Eric Estrada Valadez, Euna Joh, Luca Pasquini, Jackson Waters
They will be returning to San Francisco for a series of rehearsals with the @sfcontemporarymusicplayers and a world premiere concert of their piece at Herbst Theatre on June 9, 2026 at 7:30pm!

Entering our announcement era 📢🎶 We are thrilled to announce Jackson A. Waters as the recipient of the 2025 Emerging Black Composer Project Cabrillo Prize. In partnership with the San Francisco Symphony, this award supports bold new orchestral voices and a world premiere at the Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music. Waters will join us as part of our 2026 season with the West Coast premiere of his work, “Defending Greenwood”, as well as be commissioned for a new work to receive its world premiere during our 2027 season.

I am so excited to announce my @carnegiehall debut composing a new chamber work for the Grammy-winning @nyyouthsymphony as the Jon Deak Grand Prize Winner for Chamber Music!!
I will also be collaborating with @emerge125 to write this chamber piece for their dance studio!
