Several months late sharing some of the stories the @nytopinion art department has worked on 👏🏻 Thanks to our incredible contributors: first, our feature on the Homelessness crisis photographed by Tamara Reynolds, Sasha Phyars-Burgess, Ricardo Nagaoka, Paul D’Amato & Adam Pape; Manuel Bayo Gispert’s haunting photo & audio essay illuminates a country torn apart by violence; Jason Nocito’s cover on social media influencers who market addictive drugs to audiences too young to legally buy them; Mateo Arciniegas Huertas spent weeks with the Rodríguez family for a feature on the schools that support migrant children and their families; Michael Schelling’s photographs of RFK Jr. supporters at a campaign event in April are just 🤌🏻; Jordan Baumgarten’s “Dirtbag Narnia” series on the community that formed in his backlot in Philly; scenes from election week; Carmen Winant’s artwork for our feature on the people at the frontlines of post-Roe America; and Justine Kurland’s photo collage “Out of Many, One” sourced from hundreds of photographs of people at campaign rallies and inside voting centers published days before the election. #1 dream team: @jmwender @sarabpix @_eslahlahlah @kerrcirilo @kelazegui @mr_augugliaro @jessiamama @shoshanaaaaa @ana_becker @rebchew @saaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaam

This summer we made Field Guide, a visual journal paired with an audio experience. It’s a collection of stories, photographs and illustrations made for and inspired by the natural world around us. The four audio episodes invite you to take a walk, find a body of water, sit under a tree, look up at the night sky ... and listen. The audio experience was expertly overseen by @haleyhowle (search 'Pop-Up Magazine Presents' wherever you get your podcasts) and the visual journal beautifully designed by @mister_leo and @rebchew . Thank you to the artists who explored the natural world for us: Balarama Heller, Aspen Mays, Rinko Kawauchi, Tailyr Irvine, Elle Pérez, Sam Youkilis, Michelle Groskopf, Richard Misrach, Will Matsuda, Eddie Herena, Jordan Baumgarten, Genesis Báez, Chanell Stone, Paul Zizka, Rose Marie Cromwell, Chioma Ebinama, Dionne Lee, Byun Young Geun, Emily Margarit Mason, and Yuko Shimizu ✨ Link in bio for the journal!
