2025 in a collection of group photos across the year, taken by different hands: I don't remember when/how taking group photos became a practice in the community, but I've grown to appreciate these posed shots directed by rotating sisters each time. "Group photo!" One of them would announce, and I'd laugh at the many hands that go up to trigger the phone camera(s). These are the photos they *insist* I join, while I'm more used to being behind the camera in our gatherings. (Though this year, we have more people helping us out behind the camera.) Group photos are one of the few things that succeed at including everyone in the community, and everyone wants to be a part of (or are pulled into haha). They remind us of the people within and around SayurStory, in each of our chapters. This year especially, I've found the photos helpful for reflecting on the evolving forms of membership and relationships with our community. In the different public and closed engagements we organised this year, it was interesting to notice who the sisters invited (and insisted for) to join our group photos. 2025 was another year of exploring, questioning, and blurring the "us" and/vs "them"; drawing and redrawing multiple circles of "us" carrying layered identities and histories. The year was powered by many friends, families, and communities in orbit, whose generosity, trust, and support, we are so so grateful for. For all the new and returning faces we have encountered this year, thank you for witnessing and being a part of this very special chapter 🤍

2025 has been yet another reminder of how thrilling it is to see good, talented people channel their passions to create. On the board game front: what a treat to experience @geniegames.co launch and @genie.sama ‘s years of playtests and tireless efforts finally bearing fruit. What an honour to experience firsthand the genius of @bule.sopan ‘s intricate game design, the dedication of @origame.co to never lose steam, to the excitement of new game designers like @geminigames.co . On the art side of things: to see @katy.kat.cafe finally feeling confident to showcase her artwork, to see how much @lqliqil ‘s style has evolved in just one year, to be humbled by @dangergene unbounded imagination and consistency, and to see @samarasketch thriving with the success all her hard work and consistency has earned her. This year was also an incredible opportunity to discover creators like @jackfruitchips_ who infuse so much emotion into their work. I can’t wait for 2026 to see the new heights each of you reach! My wallet and I will be ready.

❔𝑸𝑶𝑻𝑫: Have you read any good anthologies lately? 📖: How Are You Feeling?: A Comics Anthology Thank you to @differenceenginesg for the review copies! 📌 YZ’s 𝑶𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒂𝒍𝒍 𝑽𝒆𝒓𝒅𝒊𝒄𝒕: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 📌 Bren’s 𝑶𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒂𝒍𝒍 𝑽𝒆𝒓𝒅𝒊𝒄𝒕: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Read this if you enjoy: 🧠 Singlit 🧠 Graphic novels and anthologies 🧠 Heartfelt stories surrounding deeply personal experiences 🧠 Topics related to relatable life issues, grief, and mental health 📚 YZ’s 𝑻𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉𝒕𝒔: Trust Difference Engine to compile such a wonderful collection of comics!! From a girl’s first period to their final one, to a mother’s reflection on miscarriage and finally a heartfelt sharing on depression, I absolutely adored every single one of the three short comics. I only wish they were longer. I learnt something new in every single story and I couldn’t help but think that this would be such a great gift for anyone. “A Drip, A Drop, A Deluge” would be so good for boys, men, girls, women, and tbh everyone...to learn more about the female biological processes and what females have to go through throughout life. I for sure learnt a lot. Genuinely, this would have been so good for sex-ed class if I were still in school. I especially enjoyed the final comic, “Worlds Apart: A Conversation About Mental Health”. Not only were the graphics uniquely adorable, but the comic is a good introduction to mental health and depression. I can imagine asking someone to just read this comic if they needed a good primer to this topic. However, my favourite comic would definitely have to be “Bearing Witness”. First of all, the art was IMMACULATE. It absolutely complemented the STORY, which omg…, was so profound and tragically beautiful. I found myself shedding a tear on the last page, and I couldn’t stop thinking about it for days. “Nothing is forever. Nothing good and in the same vein, nothing bad either.” REVIEW ೃ༄ How Are You Feeling? A Comics Anthology by Various Authors A girl navigates her first period while a woman anticipates her last. A mother loses her baby before she can hold him. A friend opens up about her struggles with mental health. From humorous anecdotes to deeply personal experiences, this trilogy seeks to open up dialogue about relatable issues that remain difficult to talk about. “A Drip. A Drop. A Deluge: A Period Tragicomedy” by Andeasyand collects anecdotes from women from all walks of life and their experiences with menstrual health. I loved the lighthearted tone and treasured the useful infographics, like how to use a menstrual cup. “Bearing Witness” by Vinita Ramani and Griselda Gabriele tells the story of a mother experiencing a miscarriage and her conflicting feelings along the way. The symbolic waves of emotion and blurred lines relayed Uma’s grief, allowing readers to understand the importance of sitting with the feeling to let it go. This narrative touched me greatly. “Worlds Apart: A Conversation about Mental Health” by Wayne Rée and Nurjannah Suhaimi simulates a conversation with Charissa, who gently clarifies common mental health misconceptions. I enjoyed the fantasy analogies for different conditions and how they affect you, and also for capturing people’s responses to the topic. The foreword by Nicolas Verstappen provided valuable breakdowns of artistic storytelling choices, such as one panel being “seen as part of a whole larger arrangement…that readers perceive all at once on the page before them.” I obediently stop myself from looking ahead while reading without considering that it was intentional for readers to see and process all at once, to recognise the significance of the placement. This collection has made me all the more cherish and appreciate the versatility and power of this medium; I am ever grateful to DE for setting out to capture difficult topics through accessible comics and I highly recommend this one.
