“I wanted to shoot in locations that reflect London’s texture and cultural edge, and to pay tribute to some of my favourite films by Spike Lee and Antonioni, as well as ‘90s music video aesthetics. Shooting 16mm was the most sincere way to do that: light physically tracing the shapes of people, buildings, and objects directly onto celluloid. There’s some pride in knowing you tangibly made that happen.” - Mihai Feflea, director
“This video has two sides, one captures London naturally, with its grit, grandeur and rich colours. The other is a controlled, simple dark studio where I could play around with various lighting techniques. Shooting 16mm for this project felt natural and liberating - the shooting package was small and so was the crew, embracing the light and environment that was given to us felt so much easier with film.” - Josie Cronk, director of photography

Heads of State is out today!!
This was the first film I worked on, I had quit my waitressing job just a couple days before starting prep… I feel so incredibly grateful to the people I’ve met along the way!!! Starting out as a trainee then being able to come back as a central loader after the strikes to work so near home in Nice was a dream!!! Then Belgrade was mega cool argh, so many memories with so many beautiful people 🥲
Go watch it, have a laugh 🩷
