Hey! It’s April 1st…and that means the launch day of Iphgenia Baal’s Black Skulls, a giant A3 book, perforated, that can be torn apart as posters. Long arm staple here for scale! We couldn’t be more excited to put this out into the world as Glitches: Season 1 with a writer we have long admired ♥️ Come join us tonight at @good_press from 6.30 to experience this HUGE book in person with readings from Iphgenia, @iziccc and @rosie__rob ! Eyes peeled for London launch later this month too 👀 Huge thanks to @seantmcleod for helping with the perforating and folding (each book was assembled by hand) and to @good_press for assisting with final formatting into A2 ✨ Here’s a sneak peak of what @iziccc had to say about the book: It is blackness under pressure, the fleshed bower of dipossession where the heart murmurs that something strange is going on. She sees it, or at least articulates something primal to this world that we all exist in now. We are constrained here. Our bodies have been parcelled out to be stretched across the entire west as a veneer. Nothing makes sense. I need to spit in a rich crackers face. - Isaac Harris, Blaxploitation Burner Tape (Waterwings Press, 2023) link in bio to grab ur copy!

INTRODUCING OUR READERS ✨ a week today on Wednesday 1st April for the launch of Iphgenia Baal’s Black Skulls (Season 1 of Glitches) at @good_press 6.30-8, free and unticketed! Iphgenia will be joined by support readings from two Glasgow based artists and writers: Rosie Roberts and Isaac Harris. BIOS iphgenia baal (iphgeniabaal) is a writer. she was born in london but now lives in scotland with her new family. she is the author of several books, the first being the hardy tree and the most recent being man hating psycho. she is a enthusiastic producer of print ephemera and collaborative work. she is currently working on a series of books for children, with artist fanny wickstrom. Rosie Roberts (@rosie__rob ) is an artist, writer and editor. Her practice focuses on making space for divergent thinking and conversation. Collaboration is central to the work she produces, starting with a shared question that is then explored more deeply through talking, moving, research. Isaac Harris (@iziccc ) is a writer currently concerned with failing to articulate how much everything is all the time.

(ANNOUNCEMENT) Glasgow launch of Black Skulls by Iphgenia Baal! ❗️❗️❗️❗️❗️❗️❗️❗️❗️❗️❗️❗️❗️❗️❗️❗️❗️ Join us two weeks today (April 1st) from 6.30pm at beloved @good_press , Glasgow for the first publication of a new hybrid series at SPAM: Glitches! Free and unticketed ❤️ A giant book that can be torn apart as posters, reassembled, reinvented and remixed. Written straight into inDesign, in this mash up text-visual playground, IB approaches all the BS, reaching out towards the ABCs that might have been. Start ripping! Iphgenia will be joined by support readings from two Glasgow based artists and writers: Rosie Roberts and Isaac Harris. BIOS: iphgenia baal is a writer. she was born in london but now lives in scotland with her new family. she is the author of several books, the first being the hardy tree and the most recent being man hating psycho. she is a enthusiastic producer of print ephemera and collaborative work. she is currently working on a series of books for children, with artist fanny wickstrom. Rosie Roberts (@rosie__rob ) is an artist, writer and editor. Her practice focuses on making space for divergent thinking and conversation. Collaboration is central to the work she produces, starting with a shared question that is then explored more deeply through talking, moving, research. Recent projects—focusing on editing as mutual aid, the image of the factory roof in anti-colonial direct action documentation and collaborative sound works—engage with ideas of accessibility, resistance, humour and the power of information. Isaac Harris (@iziccc ) is a writer currently concerned with failing to articulate how much everything is all the time. Accessibility: There is paid on-street parking directly in front of the shop. There is a small step at entry, approximately 3 inches, and we have a ramp that can be installed for access to wheelchair users. Please email us at [email protected] and we will arrange this for you. There is a gender neutral toilet on premises, however it is not wheelchair accessible.

Farewell to you dear Eden — Isaac Harris February 15th & 16th, 2025 Join us at Market Gallery on February 15th 5-7pm for the sharing event of ‘Farewell to you dear Eden’, an ongoing project by Isaac Harris. This event showcases work developed during the Market Studio residency, featuring both physical installation and an audio accompaniment of written work. ~ The 5-7pm sharing on the 15th will include a listening session for the audio work between 5.30-6pm. ~ We will also be open on Sunday 16th on a drop in basis 11am-4pm, with audio content looping. The event will take place in our space at 13 Ross Street, which is wheelchair accessible and has an accessible gender-neutral toilet. We have travel and childcare bursaries available, please get in touch on [email protected] to request them. // ‘Farewell to you dear Eden’ is an ongoing project exploring two separate but related psychological crises that shackle the black consciousness to reactionary ideals and political stagnation, sacrificing true liberation. Refering both to the paradise lost (whether real or imagined), through the brutality of the Maafa (Trans-atlantic Slave Trade), and to saying goodbye to the myth of an edenic past – an unattainable Arcadia that shackles us with nostalgia, complacency and rage. Influenced both by Fanon and his critiques of Negritude and Glissant’s embrace of opacity. To say goodbye to eden is to embody a double pain – to reject an ideal that paralyses us now in the present. An embrace of the opaque. The constantly changing nature of our circumstance, as we acknowledge the ever present state of our being. To acknowledge that we have and may never leave the ship-the womb-the abyss. To reckon with history, the suffering of the body, the collective howl of a people in perpetual crisis. Irreducible the past, there exists no neat resolution or a linear narrative of human progress. A rejection that entails the embrace of that which is most uncomfortable. The abyss as a site of possibility —- see the blue light on the horizon – faint, undeniable – what does it hail? // Image descriptions in the alt text.

1 - final detail from REBIS opening this Saturday at @243__luz 4-7pm 2 - one of my favorina writers/artists @iziccc will be reading at 6pm!! Isaac Harris is a writer and multimedia artist from Virginia whose practice interrogates cultural and historical narratives through fiction. Their work explores themes of memory, the absurdity of Black identity, and the fluidity of power, focusing on narratives set around the greater Black diaspora in the Atlantic world. Isaac is the author of Blaxploitation Burner Tape (Waterwings Press, 2023) and Ghetty Gospel (Ethel Zine, 2021, US; Peanut Press, 2021, Scotland). Their debut novel Le triomphe de reine Negre will be published in 2025 by Ge Hinnom Small Group Love Press. Recent writing and art has appeared in Deleuzine (2023) and in exhibitions, notably at the Centre for Contemporary Art, Glasgow for Francis Jones and Josie Perry’s The Thieves (2024), and was part of the group show, A TOTAL TRANSFORMATION IS NEEDED at MART Gallery, Dublin (2024).
