Be realistic, demand the impossible.
Witnessing human anger in such raw, unfiltered form is liberating.
One might argue about it being unjustified or ineffective, about vandalism and violence not being the answer, but I’m not here to push any agenda. I’m here to talk about the thrill of being on the frontline between two sides, solely for the purpose of capturing emotions.
This time it demanded some degree of - I won’t call it bravery, but recklessness, idiocy and excitement on my side, and I’m happy to have had it in me that day. I needed it at moments when there were stones thrown from one side, and gas capsules and sound bombs from the other. My eyes and face were burning from teargas, and I couldn’t see where I was running, and it was a great feeling.
Along with people’s anger I witnessed countless acts of solidarity, especially when some of the protesters noticed me leaving a gas cloud, and stopped me to pour half a bottle of eyedrops in my face, promising me that it’s “eau de vie”, which it was, because half a minute later I was ready to go back in.
I couldn’t have dreamed of the protest on December 1st becoming what it became. In my search of conflict, I’ll admit to hoping that things will get out of hand. And not only because it gives me a chance to get interesting shots, but also for the thrill of living the battle. A good break from living the boring European lifestyle.

Abbiamo volutamente tralasciato la parte in cui cerchiamo di interpretare regolamenti tecnici FIA vecchi di decenni, scritti in FRANCESE, stampati (male) e scansionati peggio.

In August I photographed the daring @marcocrispano painting an enormous piece on top of a roof in Rome, in nearly 40 degrees. It was fascinating to see Marco so entirely absorbed by his idea and the process, regardless of the violent sun and heat. Somehow it elevated the intensity of the experience.
