Sometime last year, I had the idea to put together a script for a short film. I had never written anything to that degree before, aside from the poetry I occasionally dabble in. As someone who is predominantly a visual artist, this was a very different form of creative expression than what I’m used to.
So I started writing. I told a story, partially my own, about the loss of passion. I poured my heart and mind into it. But writing it was only the first step; the real task was bringing it to life.
I had my eyes on some talented individuals,
@the.kenke and
@_blaq.king . I shared the script with them and they were on board. I then reached out to Smart to be my DP, and he also assisted with direction. For a few scenes, I needed paintings, which
@konyeha_artceptuality generously provided. And when it came to securing a location for one of the scenes,
@victorolophastudios graciously made his space available, and a big thank you to
@kiisha.brown for the costumes.
In many ways, this film became a different kind of curation for me. Producing and directing were very different shoes to fill, but I found that I truly enjoyed wearing them.
The entire process was deeply fulfilling, and I’m excited to finally share what we created very soon.
