When one of your collectors invites you to their private event, and majority of the art was acquired at your gallery. It’s a different feeling.

During her year-long fellowship at Hillwood Estate, Redeat Wondemu turned her lens toward the quiet beauty and emotional resonance of plants and nature. For Wondemu, artistic storytelling extends beyond the finished image and is deeply embedded in the processes, decisions, and techniques that shape each work from beginning to end. Her work captures the honesty and quiet vulnerability of her sitters, often weaving personal narratives between Washington, D.C. and Ethiopia. “Carte Blanche”, featuring works by Redeat Wondemu and other selected artists, will be on view until May 9th.

Thou shalt not let another Saturday pass without thanking everyone who came to the delightfully intimate conversation I had with Rashad Ali Muhammad and Katherine Tzu-Lan Mann two weeks ago. Special shout-out to the glorious lens-based artist, Redeat Wondemu for capturing the event in ways we didn’t even knew we needed. It was all part of Rashad’s solo exhibition that I curated in Eaton Hotel’s Crystal Corridor, Through the Veil: Currents of the Unseen. Work is still for sale—see link in the bio. Plus, you still have time to catch it in person: Eaton Hotel | 1201 K Street NW DC. @eatonhoteldc @ramcreates @ktzulan @baldheadqueen #dcartscene #acreativedc #eatondc #leicaq2 #abstractartist

I want to take a moment to thank everyone who came out to the Behind the Veil artist talk for my current solo exhibition, Through the Veil, on view at @eatonhotel.dc through the end of March. It was intimate in the best way...the right mix of people, thoughtful energy, and the chance to guide everyone on a private walk through the exhibition. Deep gratitude to @giametricart for holding such a generous, layered conversation with @ktzulan an artist (and human) I truly adore. Those moments when you get to hear the deeper layers of someone’s practice and realize how much you align? That’s special. I’m honestly just a big fan of Katherine, so sharing that space felt surreal. And of course, thank you @baldheadqueen for coordinating all the moving parts. Of course, big thanks to the incomparable lens-based artist @itslikered8 for beautifully documenting the afternoon. These are the moments that remind me why I love being an artist.

NEW ARRIVALS. Award-winning Photographer Redeat “Red” Wondemu (@itslikered8 ) is continuing her “Modern Muse” series with prints. Traversing her homeland of Ethiopia, Wondemu meticulously crafted this pre-conceptualized series using film photography. Her approach to her subjects exudes thoughtfulness, reverence, and boundless imagination. Notably, this series gained accolades with a solo exhibition at the Addis Ababa Museum, and clinched the prestigious “Best in Show” title at the Photographic Process group exhibition hosted by the Art League in Virginia. Prints are available at the gallery. Get them while they last! #artofnoizedmv #AoN #washingtondc #artgallery
