Venice Beach at night. This is without a doubt one of my favourite images Iāve made this year. While we were on our way out of the beach area there was a film crew set up in the parking lot. I noticed this crew member in the trailer and snapped this shot.

āļøread captionāļøThis past week I spent a couple days in San Francisco with some close friends to shoot an engagement but also to celebrate my birthday, this interaction was the highlight of my trip.
For three days while wandering the city we kept seeing young people in uniform. Naturally when I travel I shoot street style, and they became an interesting subject to creep, but still with a question of who what when where why.
On our last night (3/3) the boys and I were a couple drinks deep after celebrations when we called it a night and were flying through the streets on Lime scooters. As we pulled up to our block I noticed another group of them standing on a corner outside a pub. The whole trip I had been starting conversations with strangers and taking their portraits. In that moment I knew that if we left without talking to any of them Iād just be another creepy street photographer stealing photos and would have regretted not asking for a formal portrait. So we crossed the street and started a conversation. From photo 12-30 is that interaction. We talked to them for a couple minutes asking our questions which they were more than happy to answer. Turns out we happened to be in town when #fleetweeksf was happening. They were stationed on one of the ships that sailed in for the event and were at the tail end of a rowdy night out. One of them asked for a squad pic with us for himself and I took that opportunity to ask them for a couple photos in return.
I had to make it quick as they were approaching curfew and being herded into an uber by two superiors (I think?) or at least the less inebriated ones. I was happy to be able to snap a quick shot of them as well before we said our goodbyes. Thanks boys for entertaining some tourists and for the portraits, hope yāall had fun this week and sail safe wherever youāre off to next š«”

Found myself going through photos looking for a happy day and found this set. This day entire day was perfect, and this small slice of it will forever be a happy fucking core memory.
Last June, on my way back from shooting a wedding in Budapest, I stopped over in Lisbon to see a good friend @david.richard.allan .
60 hours in Lisbon and I fell in love. After sending me out for a solo walk around the city while he got some work done during the day, we met back up for drinks with a new friend @tayschaberg at a local @lxbeer_lxbrewery .
We got there an hour before closing and a couple drinks deep we met the owner Gonzalo - great guy. He told us closing time was no issue, as long as we stuck around the taps would keep pouring.
While there a friend of his - @mariaoliviapalito - came by on a walk with her two pups. We talked for a while enjoying the last of the daylight and before leaving I asked her for a quick portrait.
I havenāt posted these partially because I was split on posting her and the dogs alone, or posting a larger set showing the entire brewery adventure. Today I realized that I love this set as a whole, and the entire story has to be told alongside her portrait.
Thanks for the chat and nice meeting you @mariaoliviapalito and Gonzalo! I hope to see you next time Iām in Lisbon šš«¶š»

Truly a strange feeling when you meet someone by chance and you can feel the universe telling you that it was no coincidence.
Had I left the house today a minute earlier or later we would have never met. Nice timing on getting out of bed today too @jamncamrn & great chat, thank you for letting me take your portrait. š«”

What a night with Rainbow Chan āØ
ā
Last week, the museum's "Dream Factory" exhibition was transformed into a living, breathing soundscape ā blending Cantopop, experimental electronics, and Chinese folk influences on Ming Wongās "Vast Ocean, Boundless Skies" stage. Rainbow's performance beautifully reflected the exhibitionās diasporic lens: Honouring legacy while reimagining it in the present.
ā
Presented in partnership with The PuSh International Performing Arts Festival, this one-night-only gathering brought together community, cultural memory, and experimentation ā and closed out with a karaoke celebration. š¤ā
ā
Thank you to Rainbow Chan (@chunyinrainbowchan ) and the PuSh Festival (@pushfestival ) for an extraordinary collaboration, and to everyone who joined the museum for this special performance.ā

The story of how I manifested a client.
During a wedding late 2024 I noticed two guests, Mailyn & Nathan, a couple with an infectious vibe and energy to them. Through two days of wedding events I found myself creeping them over and over through separate stages of the getaway weekend. I couldnāt help it, they were so clearly in love - enjoying the events together, being playful, and so easy to photograph.
I remember during party they had the funniest moment - playing and dancing with the grooms dad through a window, who was there dancing alone beside the rowdy party happening steps away.
Close to the end of the night I was sitting on a balcony overlooking the tent reception area with the bride and groom, creeping them walk away from the chaos happening inside to have their own moment.
I remember the bride and I joking and saying something along the lines of āgross- look at them - so fucking cute, Iām going to throw upā š
In that moment I said to myself āI have to shoot their weddingā
Last year during a street festival I was documenting, while sitting taking a break I heard someone say towards me āHey! Mr. Yaylove!ā Looking up I saw them smiling and waving. We talked for a bit, and I asked them for a quick photo as always.
Two months later Nathan messaged me asking if I could help him out with his proposal. Guised as a couples shoot to celebrate their 2K days together.
The plan was to shoot at the Vancouver public library, and then make our way over to Bobolink park, where they had one of their first dates āto capture the fall coloursā
I tried to play it cool, saying of course Iād love to be the one to shoot.
Internally I was jumping up and down celebrating.
These shots are mostly from the proposal, but thereās so much more to show from the library that Iāll have to split into a separate post, just a tease for now.
TLDR: Mailyn and Nathan, I cannot fn wait to shoot your wedding š«°š«°š«°š«°šš®āšØ
