That time @chrstsn_ and I broke into bars and abandoned buildings to create 'Duet'- a short film we wrote, directed, co-shot, edited for Facade Festival 2019
'Duet'
Façade Festival 2019, created by Produced by @Burrardarts
Located at @vanartgallery
Technical Production/Consultation by @go2productions
Co-written by Colleen Christison and myself, Duet takes you on an adventure in the lives of two seemingly lonely hearts through both iconic and secretive settings in our city. The story can be interpreted literally and linearly, however, as the piece evolves, you will see the implications it has acting as a metaphor between the two main characters.
The intentional skewing of chronological events forces the viewer to rethink what they saw, and to observe the same piece of art with a different lens. Because the structure of the festival allows the film to be watched multiple times in one evening, I wanted to create something that can be watched with new perspectives from the previous viewing. There is no true end or beginning to Duet, when played on a loop, a viewer can enter the film at any given time.
Throughout the film, the plot is stippled with floral animations as intersections to the live-action work. The animations act as a symbol for the evolving dynamic between the characters. Animator/artist Mark Illing @mark_illing was brought in to produce an animated facsimile of my floral work from the past few years to today. Dark introspective narratives and flowers might initially seem disparate in subject matter, but they are two subjects that both experience change and evolution.
Duet represents discord and reconciliation; it is a narrative that explores the love and the turbulence of relationships through a world lush with colour and emotion. Created to entertain but more importantly to evoke thought, I hope that the viewer will question their own understanding of change, evolution and the passage of time.

All we can say is: about damn time! With over a year since our last adorable familial event, and now deep in the spring rut, it’s time to gussy up for another edition of “flaunt our cool friends and fambli members.”
Friday, May 15, 6pm–1am, and running through May 22 (by appointment), our gallery walls will be brimming with 60+ of our faves, babes, and beauties—accompanied by sonic and visual accoutrement from the sweet angels of Unsanctioned <3

We built it in 2025.
We, the artists, sponsors, volunteers, and community, came together to carry the torch that keeps our streets vibrant and alive.
We know this is not just a moment; it is a movement. Astro Arts captures creativity in a frame, a living snapshot of the rich, ever-evolving landscape of creatives around us.
Today, we look back to celebrate our collective successes and look forward to dreaming up even more.
With that, Astro Club is proud to announce the return of the Astro Arts Festival 2026, happening August 7–9.
