Our beautiful poppy was in Adershot on Thursday honouring VE Day I don’t think I’ve shown her to you before .. isn’t she stunning ? She was commissioned by Nutkhut in 2024 and it’s so great to see her out ! Thanking the amazing Suneeda who has taken charge of ensuring she is rigged properly and safely ❤️ and to @nutkhut.uk for the opportunity to indulge in such a wonderful make ! Ansel Wong’s ambitious Project Monarch Mas received ACE funding to reintroduce and elevate Monarch Mas into Carnival. I am beyond grateful to have been selected as one of the 10 artists to honour the significance of this project. Ansel’s vision was to create “Monarch Mas in the traditions of Trinidad’s Carnival Kings & Queens. Costumes of towering physical elevation, ecofriendly and reflecting the visual brilliance of Botticelli’s statuesque Venus and the scale, message and spatial dominance of Picasso’s Guernica. The Monarch costume was to enable the performer to dance it in full physical control, being at the fulcrum of the structure and with no wheels “ When the opportunity arose- Lesley-Ann said it would be a Bloco costume. Bloco’s 2025 theme had just been decided “Dance” and I proceeded to design the costume with what I had in front of me: Immense excitement, a rejoicing of my carnival memories, an ode to Murphy, and a chance to play on a different scale. While I heard Murphy’s voice saying “light (to wear), dance (able)”, I took the risk to go bigger and push further- always taking on board his advice (it's like he is still here). I settled for the costume being a visual spectacle - with no wheels. I had a very strong urge to make this a King costume. In honour of the men in my life who have upheld me. I think today, this is an important statement. He is Prisma the Dance of Light. I sourced some structural materials and some key fabrics, but a huge part of the make was to use fabrics remnants from past commissions, including past Bloco costumes, serendipitously in-keeping with Bloco’s 25 years celebration. The costume is 5.4m tall, 8m wide, 2m deep. An appliqué design. Special thank you to Dave for being above and beyond And my super volunteers Sari, Izar and Moira. Preparations underway for the Rivers and Moorland Parade in #Ivybridge..🌱 Working with Erme and Stowford Primary schools we are celebrating one of #Dartmoor’sLittleFive — the Blue Ground Beetle 🪲🪲— and stepping into a Curlew Paradise.. Be part of the procession, get into character with the amazing @Mariatarokh , make a giant River Erme with the incredible Paul from @ndpcircus , and help dress the route with flowers, colour and movement.🌺 Dance and making workshops open to all on Friday June 5th at Ivybridge Methodist Church.
